Title: Another web map application
Post by: jch2103 on November 09, 2016, 12:47:09 AM
I just came across this example of using web maps, this one for genealogy applications: http://blog.myheritage.com/2016/07/introducing-pedigreemap-an-interactive-map-of-your-family-history/

Interesting. I can duplicate some of it in IMatch/IMA for various genealogical photos/documents to which I've added GPS coordinates, but this application is obviously much more specialized for genealogy.

MyHerotage is an Insreal company with a strong focus on heritage. They have bought several companies in the field and have access to billions of archive records (https://www.myheritage.com/about-myheritage). I'm not sure how this relates to IMatch...

It doesn't, except as example of web mapping of data. Which is why it's in Off-Topic...

I see.

Basically OpenLayers (what I use for the map panel in IMatch and IMatch WebViewer) allows any kind of "overlay", as long as there is code which produces it. IMatch currently overlays pins to indicate image placement, file names and the popup windows you get when you click an image.

IMatch WebViewer adds colored cluster icons, thumbnails and more.

If you setup a family tree as a category hierarchy and fill the titles and descriptions in your images, you can produce something quite similar in IMatch. Of course this company will have programmed some additional features which are not needed in a general DAM.

But, the IMatch map panel and the map layout in IMatch WebViewer come as source code. Everybody can build on that and add more features  ;)
