Title: sub-categories in 'direct assignment only' categories
Post by: Joe Austin on November 15, 2016, 08:53:33 PM
I haven't used Imatch for a while and have noticed in my recent use that all files (direct and children) are appearing in the file window even for  direct assignment only categories.  They are separated by a grey line with the sub-category name and file count.  Is this a new feature?   Can it be disabled?

Parent categories always contain all files in their child categories, recursively.

If you enable the hierarchical display mode in the file window (toolbar button), IMatch will show not only the selected category, but also all child-categories, grouped. Same for folders. Disable the hierarchical display mode if you don't want this.

hierarchy= off worked, thanks.

In the category properties window then help says that, if 'direct assignment only' is turned on, the category 'does not consider' files in child categories.  What operations does this apply to?

This is a special feature for special requirements. It makes the category return only files directly assigned to it.
This does not affect hierarchical display in file windows of course. The child categories are still there.
