Title: Unassign File(s) From Multiple Category Tree(s) At Once
Post by: Darius1968 on July 12, 2017, 07:11:28 AM
Let's say that I have 288 files that all have assignments to a said category tree, and/or its individual sub-branches.  If I click on the top-node, it's a given that I can see all of the files that are assigned to one or more of the tree's sub-node's.  Is there a single command that will leave all of these 288 files effectively unassigned from any and all of the nodes in the tree that they were originally assigned to?

When I understand you correctly, you want to un-assign multiple files from multiple categories at the same time?

I would do that using the Current tab in the Category Panel. It shows you all the categories for the selected files. You can un-assign then from any number of categories quickly using the check box in front of each category name.

That was my approach exactly!  However, what if I have assignments to 15 or more categories.  Is there a way in a case like this, to unassign from all 15 of these categories in a one fell swoop, without having to click on each of the 15 categories to unassign?

There is no recursive un-assign, if this is what you're looking for.

Couldn't he use a splasher configured for those 15 categories then use a SHIFT CLICK on that splasher saved in favorites to unassign all 15 categories at once?

There is a category with the actions in the preferences:

- unassign from all
- unasssigns from siblings

This could help, maybe.

No, as far as I know, you can create a category and then choose this action.
See my attachement.

These options are used when you want to ensure that a file is only ever assigned to one category (or one child category of a given parent). Usually these are employed for workflows, where an image starts with one category and then moves along the children during various steps in the workflow.
