Title: Lower Left Corner says "Update Available" But I am running the latest Version
Post by: kiwilink on August 20, 2017, 01:44:56 AM
My Laptop is a 64 Bit version of Windows 10.  I downloaded and installed IMATCH 2017.8.2.  Each time I open IMATCH I see a message in the lower corner that says Update Available (see attached).

Is this because I used Pack and Go to move my database from my Desktop which is running 2017.7.4 (32-bit)?  My desktop is running Windows 10 64 bit but I have been running my production database on the desktop (32-bit) and I am testing the 64 bit on the laptop as Mario suggested.

Thanks!

I have no idea.  Did you do a manual check for update on that machine (Help menu)?

If IMatch detects an available update, it sets a flag in the settings database.
Maybe your old system had an older version and you migrated the "update available" when you moved your settings database to the new PC, which had a newer version. And thus tricked the system. I cannot  anticipate or test all possible scenarios. Probably the "update available" is per user and not per user/machine setting. The update notice should go away when the next update is installed.

I will change the "update found" setting to per-user / per computer storage, For users who run different versions of IMatch on different computers while using Pack & Go to move their settings database around. It is not advisable to use different versions of IMatch on different computers, mind.

Mario:

OK.  Thanks for the reply.  I was only running the two different versions between my Laptop and my desktop because you mentioned that the 64 bit version was in Beta.  If you think I'm O.K. to run the 64 bit versions on both platforms let me know and I'll install the 64 bit version on my desktop also.  Thanks!!!

I use the 64-bit version exclusively. Many users as well. The Beta was just pro-forma, really.

The 64-bit version has only advantages. It's now my main development track for both IMatch Anywhereâ„¢ and IMatch.

At some point in the future I will run a poll to see if and how many users still use the 32-bit edition and depending on the results I probably drop the the 32-bit version. Shipping a new release now requires me to build and test 12 (!) versions of IMatch and IMatch Anywhere and to deliver 12 installers. Yikes.

There a quit a few Apps, they have only 64-Bit-Versions (QuarkXpress, Capture One, ...). Nowadays, there is no reason, to remain on 32-Bit-Software and the first 64 Prozessor (AMD!) was back in 2003!

Not really. Many small Notebooks and Tablets with only 2 or 4 GB RAM use 32-bit editions of Windows (my ASUS tablet too). 32-bit applications consume a lot less RAM usually, and this makes them better suited for low-end hardware. Unless you try to manage 200,000+ files in IMatch or view multiple 80 Megapixel files at the same time in the Viewer, IMatch runs just fine on computers with only 2 GB RAM.
