Title: Result window: Pauses filter panel - should remember when user turns on filter
Post by: ubacher on September 28, 2017, 09:53:44 AM
I love the "no filtering" option of result panels. But I find that the filter panel gets deactivated every time one switches to the result window.

I think it would be better  if it only turns off the filtering when the window is created. Once the user added a filter it should remember this.
Are there any arguments that speak against this?

This was a design decision. If you enable the option, the filter panel will always be disabled when you switch to the result window. If you want to apply the filter, enable it again.

Reason:

Only a few users use result windows at all.
From that only a small fraction will ever learn about the "turn filter" off feature.
From that only a very small fraction will ever have a need for IMatch remembering per-result window filter panel states.
That's just not worth to design, implement and maintain all the internal plumping required for this.
