Title: Should Corel .cdr files show in the file window?
Post by: Kucera on October 18, 2017, 09:25:36 PM
All I get is the corel icon.
The WIC diagnosis says
RESULT: It looks like no WIC codec is installed which can handle this file.
Is it normal behaviour or is is there a codec someplace for downloading?
Thanks and Regards   Emil

.cdr are proprietary vector files. IMatch has no built-in routines to render these files.
I'm not aware of WIC codecs which can render Corel Draw files. Corel for sure provides none.
If Corel also does not install a "thumbnail handler" in Windows to render previews of CDR files, IMatch cannot even use that fall-back. And hence shows only the icon.

Thank you, I suspected that was the case, but wanted to make sure, because my pdf files did not show either until I changed the default pdf application (after reading discussions here).  :)
It is not really that big a deal, the few vector files I produce don't even need to be in IMatch, anyway, except perhaps for metadata.
Best regards   Emil

You can manage your CDR files with IMatch without problem. Including editing XMP metadata (stored in the database and in an external sidecar file).

Since Corel does not install a thumbnail handler, you should see no previews for these files in Windows Explorer, correct?
Otherwise IMatch would also show thumbnails/previews.

If you have Corel Draw installed, the Windows shell extension may be broken (happens).
See this MS support thread for possible ways to solve this:

Mario, wonderful, I did follow the instructions to fix those shell extensions, and behold! the icons now show in IMatch just fine.
I have just yesterday recommended IMatch on Dpreview.com, in the 'LR dead' discussions, hope it will get you at least one new customer. Not much else one can do to show some gratitude for all your hard work and amazing support, but I do try to spread the word.
Thanks again
