When posting on the fora you can attach images to your posts.
To embed them IN the post you can first save the post, go back and modify it, now using the url of the attached images to embed them.
Is this the only way or is there a smarter alternative?
That's the way I do it too. I use Copy Link Location and then paste it between .
Tip: If you have multiple image attachments, you can save turns by just incrementing the attachment number in the link by 2:

I know that there are some related mods for SMF (for semi-automatic image embedding), but I don't want to install to many mods because they often create a maintenance horror.
My tip:
If you have more than one image -> open the 'modify' link in a separate window.
Having the post open in two windows at the same time makes copy and paste really an easy task.
