Title: XMP sidecar files
Post by: banzai on September 10, 2018, 04:07:30 PM
Hi there,

I have a question about assignment of XMP sidecar files to its master file.
My raw is named e.g. abc.nef. The corresponding XMP sidecar file is abc.xmp.
Now I'm creating a DNG version of my raw file which is named abc.dng.

How does IMatch know for which raw file the XMP sidecar file is meant? Could this naming lead to problems (e.g. changing metadata of the NEF when I'm actually changing the DNG's settings?)
Could I use abc.nef.xmp as the name for the sidecar file?

By definition, an XMP file belongs to all files with the same name in the same folder.
DNG files have embedded XMP data by default.

If you want to avoid side-effects with IMatch or other software, don't use the same file name multiple times in the same folder.
