Title: Portability of Star and Color Ratings
Post by: jldodge on January 19, 2020, 10:09:42 PM
What is the best way to transfer the star and color ratings to another application for post processing?

When you write-back, the rating and label will be saved to the XMP data embedded in your image (or in the XMP sidecar file, for RAW files).
This makes the data available for all applications which support XMP metadata.

See Metadata Write-back (https://www.photools.com/help/imatch/#md_writeback.htm)

Hi there
I discovered a new problem this week: I rate my pictures usually in Capture One where I then develop the best pictures. Up to this week, these star ratings were transfered to IMatch. However, this week it didn't always work.
So I re-rated them in IMatch. As soon as I wrote back the metadata, all the ratings were gone again (in IMatch). What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for your support.
Patrick

It would help if you could provide a minimum of details.

The IMatch log file (log file (https://www.photools.com/help/imatch/#im_logfile.htm)) from the session where you experienced the problem.
The file format you are using.
For example, if you use JPEG, there is only one rating - embedded in the JPEG.
Unless C1 produces an XMP sidcecar file for the JPEG, which is non-standard but can override the rating in the JPEG.
A sample image before and after you have modified it in C1
Run the Metadata Analyst (https://www.photools.com/help/imatch/#app-md-analyst.htm) on a file with this problem, so we can see which metadata C1 has produced.

Thanks, Mario, I'll do that as soon as I'm done with the current job and get back to you.
