Title: Watched folder
Post by: Kucera on March 07, 2020, 08:54:28 PM
Hello,
I think - not know whether it is so - that a watched folder is one that gets re-scanned automatically whenever pics are added to it outside IMatch, that is, not dragged in, and hopefully even when IMatch was not running at the time, then once IMatch is reopened?
Watched folders are mentioned in a few places on the boards, but I don't seem to find anything about them in the Help file.
How to I designate or set up such a folder?

You are looking for Indexing under the Preferences->Background Processing Tab.... see this help topic: https://www.photools.com/help/imatch/#rmh_dlg_scanfolder.htm?dl=h-10 and, more specifically, this topic which discusses background indexing as well as advanced system monitoring... https://www.photools.com/help/imatch/#rmh_config_background.htm

With both of these on - your folders, subfolders and/or new images to folders already indexed in IM will automatically get added.  Couple this with a category like "newly added files" and you have a great way to review images added to your database without having to manually rescan the folders.

Enjoy!

Thanks Jingo!
I knew there would be a way, if I were to ask the right question!
Am trying to put my database in order before moving on to IMatch2020.
It is amazing, and embarrassing, getting the answer here in a fraction of the time that I have already spent searching the board and help files ...  :)
Thanks again and best regards
Emil

No worries Emil... glad to help!  The software is very complex and flexible... which means there are many ways to accomplish the same thing and it takes time to learn the ins and out.  Good luck with the migration... 2020 is fantastic!

Note that IMatch has collections in the Collection View (https://www.photools.com/help/imatch/#col_basics.htm?dl=h-2) which automatically organize files by criteria like recently added (today, yesterday, this week, this month), recently updated etc. Very easy to see which files are new and thus may need processing.

I would just add that using the power of IMatch collections in a formula category gives us an easy and powerful way to monitor what IMatch is doing in specific folders and/or categories.
