I was wondering what peoples views are on whether using IMatch to include video files is a good or bad idea.

I mainly am concerned with DAM for my photography but I have a relatively small set of video files which currently sit outside any workflows and just sit in named folders.

I assume in principle IMatch will handle the files just like any other. I will not be concerned with any use of meta data for video

Thanks

I use IM for videos in the same way as photos. Just some specfic categories/keywords. And IM provides a specific "Video" Layout in the Metadata panel.

Yep, I do the same. I manage videos in ... IMatch ... what else?!  ;D

Ok sounds good. Apart from previously mentioned metadata/categories is there anything else to watch out for ?

Like what, for example?

IMatch manages over 100 file formats by default, and video files like MOV, AVI, QT, MP4, HEIC etc. are among these formats.

MP4, QT and MOV use embedded XMP data and IMatch supports that. Most video files have one or another form of a version of Apple's QuickTime and/or H264 metadata and IMatch supports that. Some videos have GPS data and IMatch supports that.

Switch the Metadata Panel to Browser mode to see all data IMatch has fetched from your files after adding them to the database.

IMatch produces animated previews for video files, see Thumbnails for Videos and shows them in the Video Files]File Window[/url].
Tip: Searching the IMatch help for video will be beneficial if you have more questions.

If you have a more specific question, feel free to post it.

I do not care. I not not deal really a lot with videos. I simply have the same file-naming-system, except a special pair of keys, what are unique (-v-) and I do store them in a special folder. But I am not sure, if this is really necessary.
Hold special tags in metadata and/or put them in special categories is a good thing for sure.

But it should also be said that you can do this everytime. The best way is, that you use a consistent filenaming - system or another good system, where you can find quickly videos or other files.
I mean to find all videos in IMatch is quite easy and then you can put them in a category, if you want.

At the moment I do not have this, but maybe I will create a video-category, maybe combined with years. But for the moment I deal not a lot with videos, hence it is not necessary.
