Picture speaks for itself:

This also seems to influence my individual layouts:

Mario

Details, please.
Screen resolution, DPI settings in Windows, Windows text scaling settings (all in the Windows control panel).
Apply Windows text scaling setting enabled under Edit > Preferences > Application?

Please check your File Window layout and make sure you have allocated enough room for the text size.
Show a screen shot of the File Window layout.
Impossible to tell how your layout works just from looking at a screen shot. It seems the first row either wraps and has not enough space or you mix left/right cell alignment? Did you read the corresponding release note?

Disregard my 2nd post, is solved

The other thing:
- did not happen with the previous version of IM
- 4k HighDPI monitor
- scaling is 250% (recommended default); changing this is not an option.
- Apply Windows text scaling is set to Yes, but setting Yes or No makes no difference.

Btw I see this problem also on the start screen of IM:

I have only 4K and 5K monitors and Windows recommends only 150% scaling.
Your PC is a notebook I think? 250% scaling just in order to be able to read text is just insane.

Which Windows text scaling setting ("Make Text Size Bigger") (Search for text in the START menu) have you configured? 100% or more?

I've tested everything in IMatch up to 300 DPI and text scaling up to 200% (which is max).
I did not see such effects.
No other user so far reported similar issues, so this might be something really specific to your system or the combination of text scaling and 250% DPI scaling or something.

This is what I see at 250% to 350% screen scaling:

The File Window at 350% (!) screen scaling:

As I said text scaling is 250%. No problem with other apps and the previous IM version (the one before 2023.3.2)
And until now, I didnt see this problem elsewhere in IM.

mopperle

This is how it looks when setting to 150%:

QuoteAs I said text scaling is 250%.
You only mentioned scaling. You did not say if this is screen scaling (DPI) or text scaling.
So you have have display scaling to 250% and Windows text scaling both at at 250%?
These are different settings, independent of each other, mind.

Display scaling is set via the display options and text scaling via the corresponding item in the Windows config.

There is no display scaling, at least I dont know wher it should be.
Sorry, misunderstanding. Talking about this, no text scaling.

Mario

Yes. Display scaling. I've tested IMatch between 100% and 350% for this scaling setting, without any ill effects (see my screen shots).

Please check the text scaling on your system "Make Text Bigger", also in the control panel. Do you use the default 100%?

Such issues, which apparently show only on one PC (so far!) are always hard to diagnose, and every detail matters.

I'm experiencing the EXACT same issue with certain bits of type in the interface being extra large upon upgrading to 2023.3.2, including "Media & Folders/Categories/etc" tabs, and the start screen.

I'm using Win 10, and I've attached my windows scaling settings, which worked before.

And as @mopperle mentioned, the crunched up pull-down menus that I was also experiencing up to this point, have been solved.

Show us a screen shot of the IMatch UI.
Which elements are affected? Only the View tabs at the top and the File Window Caption?
Both us a "larger" font size (10% larger, if I recall correctly) calculated based on a the standard Windows caption font.

Yes

Hi, Mario.

Attached are screen grabs of the interface. The welcome screen text behind the splash screen is large, in the other two images, the areas with the red outlines are large. The icons at the top of the metadata panel seem smaller than before (yellow outline), compared to the icons atop the filter panel (green outline).

Good to know that I'm not alone ;)
The icon size ist set to "large": Preferences -> Application-> User Interface? IMHO they could be a bit bigger, but in general OK for me.

Quote from: cg on September 22, 2023, 09:56:33 PMHi, Mario.
The font size for the tabs looks OK-ish.
If did not configure a large icon size for toolbars, do this. IMatch then uses 32x32 pixel icons.

If you have to scale text by 250% percent to make it readable on your monitor, things that don't scale like fonts will look small.
I use 4K monitors and Windows recommends only 150% scaling. I guess you use a notebook with an insane screen DPI.

Please switch IMatch to debug logging (Help menu > Support > ...), close and re-open, then use Copy Log File in the same menu and ZIP + attach the result. IMatch logs some screen and DPI specs in the log.

So that you may have 2 logs

Hi, Mario.

I'm attaching the debug log file.

Also attaching interface preferences. The icon size was already set to large.

And an old screen grab from May. I believe this was shortly before 2023.x.x was released, so this would be maybe of 2021.18.4. I can't install older versions, but I'm pretty sure that the tab text at the top (Media & Folders, Categories, etc.) was slightly bigger with 2023.x.x, but with just with the latest 2023.3.2 that it suddenly got VERY big.

Quotetab text at the top (Media & Folders, Categories, etc.) was slightly bigger with 2023.x.x,
This is intentional. The font size was increased slightly for better readability on high DPI systems.
If the screen height is > 1400 pixels, IMatch switches to a slightly larger font (the "medium" font used by IMatch internally). This font is also used for many other things, from Quick View Panel to video player bookmarks to Design & Print to ExifTool Command Processor etc.
The size of the small, medium and large font IMatch uses for various things is calculated based on the smCaptionFont defined by Windows (which is version- and DPI-dependent), by scaling the size of a certain percentage.

In your screen shot, the font size of the main File Window Caption and the font size of the View tabs is the same, which it should be. Same font.

I wonder that is the difference and why I don't see overly large fonts when I switch my monitor to use 250% to 350% scaling (which is so large that even the Windows taskbar starts to fold things since they don't fit on the screen anymore - on a 4K monitor).

Checked those and yes, too big fonts in Quick View Panel, bookmarks and ExifToll Command Prozessor. But not sure about Design&print, when comparing it with the screenshot in the helpsystem.

BTW found 2 issues with Dsign&Print, where I will open a separate topic. Logfile needed?

Mario

If you find a problem in Design & Print, please open a bug report.

I have looked into the font issue and made some changes for the next release which should fix the issues experienced by some users. I could not really reproduce it, but did some tests, some math and some changes.

Not sure if this is related but for some reason, the thumbnails in the Person editor are now extra large. Maybe I changed a setting while investigating the font size issue.

The size of the thumbnails is controlled with the slider at the top of the Face Manager.

I never noticed that slider there before. Thanks, Mario!

Hi, Mario.

The 2023.3.4 release has indeed fixed the large text problem.

Thank you!

Mario

Very good. I've reverted back to "hard-coded" font sizes instead of using percentages of the default Windows menu / icon fonts.
Apparently, on some computers, the measures returned by Windows are wrong, causing IMatch to use too large fonts.
