2023.4.2 File Window thumbs don't show footer at all.
Layouts are unchanged - no thumbnail does show a footer (under rating and label).
It doesn't matter whether experimental features are on or off.

Nothing regarding File Window layouts has changed for quite some time.
Which File Window layout do you use? One of the default layouts or a custom layout?

I've tested the default layouts "Headline, Description and Keywords" and "Image Info", which both use footers and the footers show as intended.

I haven't changed the layouts for years!

Layouts with "custom templates" do work. (I have some full blown with 4 lines and footers left/right.)

A simple template with just "Headline" for the left footer does not work.

BTW what is the meaning of the little dot right of "Headline" (and others) when selecting the Attribute in the layout editor?
(I currently don't recall.)

I can reproduce this. It seems to affect only elements which use metadata values. File name, Date & Time works.
Looks like the File Window is not fetching metadata correctly, for some reason. Need to check my version control system if I made changes in this area or what may cause this.

You mean the dot in the Simple Layout editor?
It indicates standard metadata attributes, also used for Metadata Tag ShortCodes.

I can reproduce this.

I have figured it out. It's caused by an optimization I've introduced.
Not as clever as I had thought, though

File Windows now better minimizes the amount of metadata to load per file. This improves performance for users working with File Window containing more than a few dozen files.
The part of the algorithm that determines which tags are used by a layout had a bug, causing it to miss some tags, and this means the data is not loaded (anymore).

I have fixed that for the next release.
Now it's fast and correct.

2023.4.4 solved this for me too :-)

Now I'm happy again.

I like the performance improvement!

Often I use the file window in custom sort order as a lighttable to sort some images (max. 100).
Rearranging the sequence had become a real PITA with the version before 2023.4.
Apparently IMatch reloaded all metadata even if only the sort order had changed.

I'm not sure what data you show in your File Window layouts or why you should have experienced any issue with this in older IMatch versions. I regularly manually reorder files in folders containing 1,000 or even 5,000 files and I have never seen any issue with this. Do you use very complex layouts?

No, for sorting it's a simple one (Header: Filename, Footer: Headline).

With IMatch 2023.3.6 it even made a minor performance difference to the better ticking off all! filter criteria - even with paused filter.

I make heavy use of categories (no data driven, automatic update of the IMatch samples switched off).
Currently I manage roughly 260.000 images.

The reponse to each image move had been very sluggish - as if IMatch reread all Metadata even when I moved an image just in the file window (not involving any move in the filesystem).
This behavior had been introduced with an IMatch 2023.3.x version.

And, yes, I diagnose and optimize the database regularly.

But everything is good now with IMatch 2023.4.4.  :)

Mario

Very strange. But good that it faster now for you. It will be faster for all users, especially when many files are loaded into the File Window.
