Hello,

i try to force imatch to skip more than one folder, but do not know how. I tried to separate via comma but was not succesfull:
\\captureone$, \\lightroom$
How can this be done?

Mario

According to the documentation, the folders should be separated with a semicolon, not a comma.

I tried it with:

(1) \\captureone$; \\lightroom$

(2) \\captureone$; lightroom$

(3) \\captureone$;\\lightroom$

(3) worked. Eventually you will show this in your help, safes further inquiry.

Isn't the help clear on that? It states that multiple RegExp can be used. And for a RegExp, there is no such thing like automatic whitespace deletion. If a space is entered as part of a RegExp it is interpreted as a regular character.

If you have the knowledge o.k. Imatch is also used by users who are not IT specialists. If its only shown via the picture Mario already has in its help documentation could be helpful. Was just a proposal.

You mean I should make it explain explicitly that no spaces or tabs etc. should be added after the separating ; because they become part of the regular expression following the ; ?

Maybe I should add another example so users have something to copy & paste.
It's always hard to anticipate the questions users have or the mistakes they make and to put everything into the help from the start.

I think just use a screenshot like i modified (from your help documentation), that should be o.k. Nothing more. So everyone can see that it is and how it is easily configurable for more than one folders

Mario

I'll just add another example.

This is mostly CaptureOne users. Which applications creates Lightroom sub-folders and what do they contain?

logical way you are right. I do have my old lightroom 4 catalog, also as my imatch cache folder in the same directory of HDD as my pictures. Because of limited space on my SSD i have there just things which really need the speed as my imatch database for example. See attached. I forced imatch not to include the outlined folders. You can take more logical examples.

The typical way to deal with this would be to create a top-level folder "images" and then move all images folders (1998...2020) under that.
Keeping all the unwanted folders in a separate "data" folder hierarchy. Separation is key here.

This way you only index "images" in IMatch and don't need to fiddle with folder exclusions etc.

Never thought about it. When started with it it was orginal just D:\\Eigene Bilder\19xx. That time there was no LR and so on. Just the folders, first i had no managment, later ThumbsPlus. I think i will create 1 additional folder in Eigene Bilder which collects the other folders and fade-out this one in imatch.

Mario

Combining all your images under one "root" folder (per disk, if your collection spans multiple disks) is a good idea.

It separates your images (and other files you want to manage in IMatch, like video, audio, documentation, ...) from the "data/stuff" files you don't want/need to manage in your DAM.
This simplifies things a lot and allows IMatch to manage your files efficiently.
