Imatch 2021 will not start

Just upgraded and installed Imatch 2021.

Seemed starting up fine, first time it asked if I want to convert the database, but at some point it stops with the message that the application stopped working and Window will close the program. Restarted the computer twice, no change. I attached a log file.

Hope it's easy to fix, as I'm sure everybody is eager to start playing with the latest version.

Thanks,

Strange. I can run IMatch without problems.

I see one problem reported while parsing one of your (?) apps:

'C:\ProgramData\photools.com\IMatch6\webroot\user\rename-face-tags\csv-import\app.json': 'Invalid id. Use only letters, digits and _-. NO blanks.'

Maybe check and fix this first.

Shortly after IMatch is terminated and logs:

INVALID PARAMETER HANDLER called. Application is shut-down by runtime library.  'V:\develop\IMatch5\src\IMatchNG\IMatch.cpp(145)'
This handler is only called when something goes really wrong somewhere, e.g. something diving by 0 or a crash in the runtime library happens.

The log before looks OK, no warnings or other issues.
The last log before the crash is:

Dashboard: Quality Panel setting up defaults.

which is logged when the Dashboard sets up some defaults. Nothing unusual.

Does IMatch produce a DUMP file? See The Debug Dump File

Please switch IMatch to debug logging (see log file), maybe this offers additional insight.

See below:

I removed the app, but that did not change anything.

No, it stops after saying a new version has been installed. See attached screen shot

Imatch did not start, hence I couldn't switch to develop mode.

I think it may have something to do that some days ago I switched to the develop mode as I created a list of data driven categories. I could not change this mode either as Imatch was not starting up.

Next thing I tried was to rename the pts file so Imatch has to create a new one. As soon as I did that, Imatch starts fine.

I switched to debug logging and then renamed the old pts file. As expected, Imatch stops again.  I attached the log, hopefully it is in the debug mode.

I assume I loose all my preferences when Imatch creates a new pts file. Is there anything else I need to pay attention too or is there a way to get Imatch working with the correct pts file?

Have you kept the debug log from when it stopped again?
Only a screen shot of the error message is not helpful.

This sounds like a setting is broken. From experience, I would guess the 3rd party UI toolkit messed up a setting.
Hold down Ctrl when starting IMatch (keep it pressed). In the advanced startup mode, choose "Reset Workspace" This will reset the default workspace back to default settings.

Advanced Startup Options (Recovery)

If this works, all your settings are retained and you can switch to another workspace or change the new default workspace to your liking.

Worked perfectly!

Thanks for the help,

Sometimes, very rarely, the UI toolkit seems to fail to restore "something" correctly. My guess would be a stored "tree state", e.g. which folders were expanded in the Media & Folders tree or the Category Panel or wherever.
There is also a timing component involved, I thing. If everything is just right, the UI toolkit crashes while accessing a memory location or something.

The problem is that this always affects only one PC and is not reproducible anywhere else. Not even with the same database and settings file. I've had a handful of similar reports over the years, But could never repro it.
Thankfully (and cleverly) I've added the Advanced Startup options to IMatch 5 in the day, and that has helped several users over time - to deal with various problems. Like the "hobble home" feature in modern cars.

Enjoy IMatch 2021. It's really good, I'm proud to say.
