What's happening?

Hi Mario,

I don't know what's happening.... I upgraded to 2021.14 and now it is totally unusable for me. On my left screen (I have 2 monitors) I have the quick view and it drives me totally mad. It keeps on flashing. Furtheron iMatch steals constantly the focus. In other programs (e.g. Chrome) I can't even type a letter.

I restarted my pc (full restart) with no succes.

How can I revert to the previous version? I never had something like this.

Thanks in advance.

I recorded around 40 seconds with SnagIt. If desired I can send it to you.

p.s. other programs (Lightroom Classic, Davinci Resolve) don't show this issue.

Mario

I'm quite sure that something similar has never been reported.

Is IMatch doing anything? Like processing files or recalculating data-driven categories? When you open the Info & Activity Panel, does it show any activity in the background processing queue?
Is the Notification area at the bottom visible?
Do you run any custom apps?
When happens if you close the Quick View panel on the second monitor?
Is IMatch maybe overlapping both monitors?
Which Windows version are you using?
From which IMatch version did you upgrade to the 2021.14.4?
Any warnings or errors in the log file (see log file)?

I run IMatch 2021.14.4 on three computers and I don't see any issues.

Wait.... that could be the reason...... I updated a ton of images in Lightroom in several folders..... I see indeed constanly a message that background processes are completed and then again a green progressbar pops up.

I think I have to be more patient....

Let's see what happens if I leave iMatch running for a while.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Rien.

It is the reason! I did a rescan (right click on the parent folder) and after a while iMatch was ready. Now it is acting normal again.

Regards,

Rien.

Hm.
This looks like IMatch was constantly reloading the active File Window (because the files in the current scope were updated, rescanned, face-rcognition was running etc.).
This is not uncommon. But it should not pull the focus away from other windows or activate IMatch. IMatch focuses the File  Window under some conditions, but not when it just updates the scope because of background activity.

I've made a quick check but I see no related changes in the code between the 2021.11 and the .14 versions.
I'll try to reproduce this somehow and maybe I can figure out what happened. I have so far not experienced this and no other user reported something similar.
I also work with Lightroom.

Hi Mario,

Perfect. Thanks. Would you like to have my movie to see what (at least on my machine) happens during these updates?

My machine is still up-to-date (I think): AMD 5950X, 64 GB, nVidia 3090.

Mario

A video will not help much.
But if you can come up with steps which reproduce this on your system (and then hopefully mine), this would be useful.

I have tried to reproduce this by processing files in a folder currently active in IMatch (showing in the FW) in Lr. Processing in ACR, saving the changes to create the XMP, importing files and modifying them, saving the XMP, producing DNG and JPG files in the same folder or a sub-folder of the folder showing in IMatch. Nothing unusual happened. Viewer and Quick View Panel on a second monitor.
Then I repeated the procedure with files containing one or multiple persons, in case it was the face recognition during import. Again, nothing.
Must be something special. A panel you are using, other software running, who knows.

If I can reproduce it, I can fix it. But I've spend 30 minutes with this now, and could not. Need more input or repro steps.

Hi Mario,

These were the steps I did:
- I added a color to my photo's in Lightroom (strange that Lightroom didn't "see" the colors I added in iMatch) to around 2000 photo's in around 50 folders.
- I closed Lightroom.
- I started iMatch.
- I applied a filter: I just wanted to see the documents which didn't have a color and didn't have location-information (city = empty).
- I wanted to start to add the color and the location information.....

but couldn't, because iMatch was flashing all the time.

In between I wanted to write a post to you..... which I couldn't because iMatch was "stealing' the focus every few seconds.

But perhaps it's all because I didn't wait long enough. I didn't realise that iMatch has to do so many work to update all the (by Lightroom) changed files.

Mario

With "color" do you mean the XMP label?
In that case, you make sure IMatch has written back the files, so the XMP label in the file is updated.
Lr will then tell you that the metadata of the file has changed and needs to be reloaded. The you can see the label set in IMatch also in Lr.

See Using Adobe Lightroom® and IMatch together[/] for more info.

Hi Mario,

I found out (too late ;-)) what the problem is with the color-labels:
iMatch writes it as English (Red) while Lightroom uses the Dutch variant (Rood).

I think I'll change the colors in Lightroom to English.

Mario

XMP labels are just text. Every application uses different names and associates them (optionally) with different colors. There is no standard.

If you want to use labels across multiple applications, you must use the same names for all applications. And the same colors, probably.
IMatch ships with a set of standard label names used by common applications - in English.

You can configure your own (Dutch) label names and colors as explained here: XMP Labels
There is even an option to scan the database for label names used and set them up automatically. IMatch is smart and flexible.

When you setup your Dutch label names and use them in IMatch, they will show up in Lightroom and vice-versa.
For example, setup a label named "Rood" and associate it it with a Red color.
