Save a search?

I frequently make image searches in the map panel, using a polygon to define the area. This can produce many images in the result window, such that I might not be able to work through them all before having to close the database. When I restart, the search(es) are no longer there.

So my question is: can I save a search before I close iMatch or shut down the PC? I suspect there may be a way of doing this, but I cannot find it. (I am a fairly new user.)

Many thanks

An easy solution would be to select all the images with Ctrl+A and then put them into a collection (by clicking one of the collection icons in the File Window). See The File Window: Manipulating Collections.

Another easy solution would be to select all files and put them into an existing or new category.
You can create a new category and add all selected files to it with a single click on the button in the Category Panel:

Image1.jpg

When you later finish processing the files, empty or delete the category.

This approach allows you to persist any number of search results or other selections for any amount of time.
You only need to remember what the selection was for, but that's easily to include in the category name.

I keep a number of categories under a parent category just for this purpose.
For temporarily storing search results, complex selections, files I need to do work on etc.
Very flexible.

See Categories for more information.

Excellent. Thank you Mario.

And I would assign the found files to an event. I have an event category "temporary".
The advantage I see with using an event is that I can display the files without having to switch to categories - where
I might have a category and a filter active - and which I don't want to disturb.

(I should explain however that I do not use EVENTS for its intended purpose - I have been categorizing events
and this method still serves me better.)
