Adding a triangle icon on the file explorer thumbnail above the videos would make them easier to identify.

You can do that with a custom layout if you want. See this KB article for some ideas.

Or just show the file extension to identify what is a video?

I have used the custom icons before and they are fantastic, but my idea is that they are on top of the thumbnails, something subtle, so that I can use them in thumbnail-only mode or in the experimental file explorer mode.

The only overlay used currently is the rejected file overlay.

You want to somehow "indicate" video files with an overlay / icon rendered on top of the thumbnail.
Other users might want the same to indicate audio files or specific file formats.
And of course configurable. Maybe with a custom icon chosen by the user...
Where to stop?

File Windows offer so many ways to customize File Window layouts and do custom formatting, even display custom icons. With full support for IMatch variable logic.

I don't know how many users mix videos with normal images or other files.
And combine that with a File Window layout that shows no text at all.

Let's see if and how many Likes your request gets.

I use a data-driven category to put a blue stripe under the thumbnails of video files so I can spot them easily scrolling through the file window.

This has been convenient for me, as I do have video files among my photos, which I would guess is quite common when dealing with casual snapshots from a phone. Unlike the thumbnail generated for a photo, the thumbnails generated for videos are far less informative about the entire contents of the video, which is why I rely on some visual indication that the thumbnail in the file window represents a video and needs further scrutiny for tagging.

Video would seem to be a common use situation, especially now that there's a built-in video player, so a simple semi-transparent triangle overlay over the thumbnail sounds nice in and of itself, but if it could be further customized, even better.

Also a good solution for this particular problem.

When you talk about a "triangle", you mean something like this?

I have implemented this for the next release.
