When viewing up to 8 images in the viewer it would be good if there were an option to have images marked for deletion disappear from view.

This option would make it easier to cull images as the images displayed would only show a reducing number of unculled images. This would be even more beneficial when the number of images in a view increases to 16 in the 2024 /2025 release adding another USP to imatch.

There are options that will do that.

Edit > Preferences > Application > Viewer

See attached screenshot.

No it doesn't

Set the option
Select 12 files and open the viewer (which shows 6 images with my settings)
Delete one
The focus moves to the next image but the deleted one is still shown

My understanding of the Feature Request is that doing that should make the rejected image disappear and everything to the right of it shuffle left to make room for a new image bottom right.
Exactly what the File Viewer does if you have a filter to hide rejected files

Yes that's right.

Agree, that's what the feature request is after

Yes.. I discussed and requested this same feature here a few months ago.. https://www.photools.com/community/index.php?msg=100068

I look forward to this mechanism being implemented in the next version!

I'm probably I'm missing something but IMatch already works like that for me and I suspect it's because of my culling workflow.

I select the images I want to cull, open them in the viewer, then as I step through them one at a time when I find one I want to delete I press the Delete key which assigns the Reject rating to that image.

Then going forward or back to other images in the viewer I continue the same process and once I've pressed the delete key I won't see that image again in the viewer as I continue to scroll forward or backward.

However if I exit the viewer then open it again then I would see the rejected images but I never do that.  Instead once I've rejected one or more images and have exited the viewer I either physically delete them or I move the rejected images to my Rejections folder before going back to the images I'm culling to continue the same process.

Yes your method works well up to a point and maybe you don't cull as many photos in a set or are more selective when taking them.

It's a long time since I used Lightroom but I can remember a feature which I miss in imatch where two images were displayed together giving you a choice of comparing first image with the next and continuing or promoting the second image. That way rapidly moving through a batch of similar images and selecting the best, deleting the rest.

Removing images marked for deletion in imatch would probably be even better than the Lightroom method.

Quotecontinuing or promoting the second image.
The Viewer has a promotion/demotion feature.

Another thing I didn't know imatch could do. But just had a quick go. If I move an image down with 8 displayed, it moves in the filmstrip but not the Viewer. Confusing? Am I missing somethng?

In single image mode, the Viewer currently skips over images marked for deletion. In multi-image mode, these fies were still displayed (with the "marked" overlay icon).

The Viewer in IMatch 2025 has been enhanced to suppress images marked for deletion in multi-image mode. They are no longer shown. Unless you directly navigate to them while holding <Alt> (which also prevents the Viewer from skipping over marked images) - which allows to remove the mark.

When you mark a file in multi-image mode, the file is removed from view and the free image window is filled from the next non-marked file in sequence.

Multi-selection is not affected. When you select multiple files, you are free to select marked files as well. This is useful in many situations, including when you want to remove the mark.

This was not so easy to implement, due to the complexity of selections, promoting and demoting images and all the aspects of the Viewer involved. A looot of things going on when the user simply navigates between files.
I've also had to handle situations where the are suddenly more image windows than "displayable" images, e.g. when the user marks most or all files. The edge cases are always the stuff that takes the longest to figure out.

I'm so looking forward to this in 2025!  This (along with the 8 image bump-up) will make my culling process much quicker without having to either exit the viewer and select the files again after filtering... or unselect and select files down in the filmstrip within the viewer after a round of culling.  Can't Wait!  Thank you for this... 8)
