I have been putting some files in categories out of the @All. How can I set this up so that the files I have put in categories will no longer show up?

All files are included in @All whether they are assigned to categories or not. Did you mean @Keywords rather than @All?
That really would not matter much though. You can have a file in multiple categories as well as multiple Keyword categories.

The @All category represents all files in your database. You cannot remove files from @All.

Check out the categories named Unassigned and Uncategorized, these are probably what you are looking for.
Click on these categories and look at the description shown in the property window for more info. Lookup the details on the formulas used in the IMatch help if you are unsure about the meaning of unassigned vs. uncategorized.

It's explained on the Category Formula page in help.

Basically Unassigned shows all files not assigned to any direct category, direct meaning standard IMatch categories (not @keywords, formulas or data-driven categories).

Uncategorized shows all files not assigned to any category of any type.

I see you have two categories named Unassigned, if both use the @unassigned formula, they probably won't work right as there should only be one Unassigned category.

I have no idea what your Universal Catalog category is.

How can I switch yo the category formula editor? How can I switch to the Properties tabr? Click on the row for the Formula property and then on the ... button to open the Formula Editor?

OK I started using the Unassigned files to assign the Elk image to a category but the elk images stayed in the  Unassigned files. What do I need to do to get them to no longer show in the Unassigned files. May be get them to show up in a category called Assigned or something like that?

Are you using categories under @keywords?  If so, @Unassigned won't do what you want as it only monitors direct categories such as those under the "IMatch Sample Categories" category.  To enter or edit a formula use the category properties (see attached screen shot).
