Workspaces

I'm just having a play around with workspaces but I'm struggling to see what I'm doing wrong when it comes to saving them.

I've created a few different  Workspaces. I can click between them and all is fine my saved panels are where they should be.

Problem is, if I  close a couple of panels or move them around in say the 'Keyword' workspace, open up another Workspace then re-open the 'Keyword' one again I don't have the Workspace which was originally saved but the one with all the panels moved or closed.

1. IMatch uses the concept of an active workspace.
2. All changes you make are automatically stored in the active workspace.
3. The active workspace can be selected in the menu.
4. You can save the active workspace under another name. This does not change the active workspace.
5. When you load a saved workspace, you make it active. Then see 1. above.

As others have said  once a workspace is saved it should not be altered in anyway unless that workspace is saved again  manually by the user.

Whatever you do, test is not changed afterwards. Because test is not the active workspace. All your changes go still to Default.

BUT when you later make test the active workspace, all changes after that will be saved to test. This is surely what you want when you switch your workspace to test.

What you may want, and that's a feature request, is something like "load the previously saved workspace 'test' into the active workspace, but don't make test active".  Basically a "replace the current workspace with whatever was stored to "test" at some time".

This Workspaces 'behaviour' - as it's currently implemented - is slowing me down too as I try to optimise my IM5 panels and views, so I've bumped Thorsten's earlier, October 2013 Feature Request to the top ...

You say this is a recovery option. I have tried this in the past and it indeed does reset the 'Default' workspace.


Heres a  worflow for you which I'm sure many here use.

1.You start working on some photos, switching between Workspaces to complete the job in hand. During this you find that you modified a couple of the workspaces because at the time it helped you work better.

2.You now wish to start on another batch of photos and for your  workflow you need to have you Workspaces back to their original saved state, as in 1.

What you are saying is that you now have to close the program and start up in Advanced mode and reset the Workspaces.

Problem is it does not reset any of the other workspaces to the way they were originally setup. They open up to the way they were last used. Only the default Workspace is reset.
And closing and reopening the program mid workflow is not good at all.
