hidden, but open panels: do they use resources?

Hi Mario,
about panels and use of resources, what does have an impact on speed:

1) If a panel is normally hidden behind another panel, like in attachement 1, does this hidden panel (in this case keywords) use also resources? Means, does/must IM also count hidden panels?

2) If I hide a panel like in attachement 2 (in this case attributes), is it the same, must IMatch also count this values?

Why I ask this?
Because I want to try to place my panel as good as possible for me. If I have it for example like in attachement 2, I see the panel attributes not (hidden by views-panel), but if I want to add some Attributes, I can simply click on the line "Attributes" and the panelcomes over the view-panel.

3) Same with stack and version - panel, when they are NOT closed, but not viewable, must then IMatch also use resources for them.

I hope: hidden or not viewable panels does not use resources ;)

IMatch tries not not update hidden panels. But it's not always clear from the messages sent by the UI toolkit if a panel is hidden, collapsed, obscured by another panel etc. In general, hidden panels use less resources than visible panels. Closed panels use no resources. Usually the impact of open panels is not that much, except for your case from last week where you forced IMatch to always reload one of the filter panels with more than 10,000 entries.

It also always depends on how many files you have selected. The time for loading the keywords for one file is less than 10 ms. If you select 499 files, IMatch has to load keywords fro 499 files in order to display the merged view. That can take a couple of seconds. Same for the metadata panel. Same for the Categories panel.

Thanks a lot, that helps me! I will try to arrange the panels clever (not so like the filter from last week, astonishing, what all you can remember).
