Timeline Filtered, Search Result 2nd Filter

Okay, I'm browsing my timeline view by months of this year for png files exclusively.  I do searches on individual images for visually similar images.  The result of these may contain jpegs that are of interest to me, but for everything in the timeline view, I want only png images.  To do this, I could just set a global filter for just png and jpeg files, and then use the search bar in timeline view to have just the png files returned there.  The problem I'm having with this, however, is that I have to explicitly clear the search, and then search for jpeg images all over again every time I switch to a different month, which gets to be tedious.  So, what would be the best way for me to be able to click on the different months, days, etc. in the timeline view, and see just png images, but then see both png and jpeg images in the results window without having to flip switches all the time?
