rejected files handled differently

Hi Mario,

the viewer handles rejected files differently depending on the two following scenarios.
  - iMatch reject: red cross is overlayed on the image and on the icon in the filmstrip; image is darkened
  - XPM reject label: red circle is overlayed on the image in the collections overlay and on the icon in the filmstrip
 
Is this a wanted behaviour?
I would find it more convenient if both cases are handled the same way.

What i am missing:
  Images that are only rejected by the "xmp reject label":
    - don't get darkened
    - cannot be skipped when selecting the next/previous image by the arrow keys

The Viewer uses it's own quick method to mark files for later reject/delete. This is to improve your workflow because this "mark for deletion" flag is not stored in the metadata, does not require IMatch to update the database, does not cause data-driven categories or collections to be re-calculated. Only when you are finished with your culling session in the Viewer you decide what to do with the files you have marked.

This is why the reject rating (XMP-based) and the "mark for deletion" in the Viewer use different icons - this way you can always tell what is what. We tested this with early testers and the local focus groups about 2 years ago and it was very well received.

Ok, i see your point. I don't think i need the distinction but maybe others, so that's fine.


so, a few new questions:

• Why do rejected files (XMP-based) not get darkened in the viewer and why can't i skip them when moving forward with the arrow keys?
• Sometimes i quickly want to leave the viewer, without having finished "marking files for deletion", e.g. to check on some other folders.
  How can i preserve the "mark for deletion" so that i can continue later? Using the red flag as offered by iMatch, wouldn't let me go back so that everythink looks the same again.

1. That's how it is implemented.
2. You can do nothing, delete the files, set the reject rating or add the red pin. For your use case, I suggest you use the red pin to conserve the state.

You could filter them out, although you would need to enable this filter outside of the viewer.

Having said that, if you do this and then set the reject rating on a file in the viewer then the filter doesn't take effect while the viewer is open.  This may be BBD.

More seriously, the filter doesn't take effect when closing the viewer either.  You have to pause and re-enable the filter, or leave the folder and then return.  I think this is a bug.

@Ferdinand: Your solution might work, but it's too complicated in my view.

@Mario: Using the red flag is a working workaround for me. In the longterm a few small changes to this feature would be good.
I'm using the "mark to delete" more and more, it's really good.
