I noticed that I can zoom in and out of an image in the quick view panel by holding down the ctrl key on my keyboard and then scrolling my mouse wheel. This is a great improvement over imatch 5.4. So thanks for this addition.

And I noticed that scrolling my mouse wheel while not holding down the ctrl key nothing happens.

Would it be possible to be able to zoom in and out of an image in the quick view panel by simply scrolling the mouse wheel alone?

Thanks for thinking about this suggestion.

The user experience of the Viewer and the Quick View Panel has been consolidated for IMatch 5.5 and later.

You can use the same keyboard shortcuts and mouse commands in both features.

Tip: Right-click into the Quick View Panel for an overview of all available commands and their associated keyboard shortcuts.

Press <F1> for help on the Quick View Panel.

Hi Mario,

I have looked at this stuff before. This is why I was surprised when pressing the crtl. key and then using the mouse wheel worked to zoom in and out because this is not mentioned in the documentation. Am I correct? I like it much more than any of the other shortcuts that are provided.

Still, I think it would be even easier if I didn't have to hold the ctrl. key when I used the mouse wheel to zoom in and out but could simply use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out.

At least in the quick view panel the mouse wheel doesn't seem to be used for anything so I thought this might be an easy thing to implement.

Thanks,
David

Thanks for the info about the missing info in the help topic.

Tip: You can use the Feedback link at the bottom of each help topic to send me direct feedback about help topics. This makes it easier for me.

I currently have no plans to use up the scroll-wheel for the Quick View Panel. It may be needed for a future feature.

But, as usual, if your feature request gets a number of likes and comments, I may consider implementing this.

Thanks as always for such fast and quick responses.

So everyone check out what I was talking about (that you can zoom in and out of an image in the quick view panel by pressing the ctrl key and scrolling your mouse scroll wheel). If you like this, imagine how much easier zooming would be in the quick view panel simply by scrolling your mouse wheel and not having to hold the ctrl key. If you agree, go ahead and like this feature request.

You can also toggle between fit-to-window and 100% mode with double-click.

The double click is nice for this. Thanks. I had mostly been using the z key to accomplish this.

One thing I realized about the ctrl mouse wheel zoom is that in order to pan around the image by holding the left click down and moving the mouse I have to let go of that ctrl key. So when I am panning around an image and zooming in and out with the ctrl mouse wheel I have to keep taking my finger off and on the ctrl key.

Liked ...

I use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out while I'm editing photos in DxO Optics Pro almost every day.

For me, the need to use the CTRL key (and to remember to use it!) with the mouse wheel to zoom in IMatch Preview is enough of a barrier that I tend to use CTRL + '+' and CTRL + '-'to zoom in and out ... but this involves shuffling my hand between 'mouse mode' and 'keyboard mode', so I too would like to be able to use mouse (and wheel) alone while previewing photos in IMatch.

Which zoom ratios do you use most in the Quick View Panel?
My experience is that most users (including myself) either

+ want to see the entire image, or
+ zoom to a specific point (left-click and hold) or
+ toggle between fit-mode and 100% (double-click or <Z> key).

Using the scroll wheel without <Ctrl> would a) introduce a different way to zoom than in the Viewer and b) only allow you to reach zoom ratios in-between fit-to-window mode and 100%. I'm not sure how often such ratios are used by the majority of users and if this warrants 'using up' the scroll wheel for this purpose.

Hi Mario,

I know you are the creator of this software and have seen first hand how a lot of folks use IMatch.

But.

My guess is that at least a decent percentage of users would use the zoom the way I like to if it was easy for them to do so. I am not sure how we can figure that out, especially with the fact that the current zooming by scrolling the mouse wheel is not as easy as it could be.

In IMatch 3 you allowed us to zoom with just a scroll of the mouse wheel. That sadly disappeared with IMatch 5 (not really the end of the world or anything  ;)). In IMatch 5.5 you started to allowed us to zoom with the mouse wheel if we also hold down the ctrl. key. So a great improvement. Removing having to use the crtl. key as was the protocol in IMatch 3 would be great since then I could do all the zooming, panning, etc. without having to use the keyboard.

Personally, I don't like the methods you mentioned for zooming. They just don't accomplish what I am trying to accomplish. But we all clearly are trying to accomplish different things.

Anyway just my thoughts.

Every Feature Request topic has a Like button. If users click on "Like" it will be counted and we can see how important the feature is. Of course only a part of the IMatch users participate in the community, and only a fraction of these look at feature requests. Which means that every Like counts more than one voice. This is how we know it.

The scroll wheel does different things whether you press <Ctrl> or <Alt>. And it works identically in the Viewer and the Quick View Panel.

In IMatch 3, the Quick View Panel had only dive-zoom on left-click, or 100% fixed.
In IMatch 5 it has full zoom capabilities between 10% and 800%, toggle between fit and 100% by double-click or <Z> key, normal pan, fast pan, <Alt> zoom etc. Quite a bit of improvement I think.
I don't know how often you really need zoom levels different than fit and 100% in the Quick View panel, that's why I asked how you work. If you need that so often that it's uncomfortable to use <Ctrl>, your workflow may differ from how other users are working with IMatch. We'll see how many Likes this FR gets.
