Do a clean install but preserve layouts/scripts

Hi everybody,

i would like to do a clean re-install of iMatch, since i assume that my installation folder somehow got messed up.
But i would like to keep my most important settings like: file window layouts, panel layouts, user scripts

I know that this is kind of contradictory but it's worth a try.
For example there is the following weird behaviour (iMatch 5.7.2):

  • Startup Window shows every time "iMatch an Bildschirmauflösung anpassen." -> Also interesting is, that it only shows up in when language setting equals "German"
  • Keyword panel: The list "Recent" and "Top 50"  are empty if the option "show cloud" is deactivated

Thanks for any help,
Ben

Reinstalling IMatch keeps your settings and stuff.

All settings are stored in the central settings database C:\ProgramData\photools.com\IMatch5\config\imatch5.pts so you might want to backup it, just in case.

When IMatch always thinks it runs for the first time (showing the 'screen resolution' prompt) it may be unable to write to the settings database...
Did you check the log file for warnings or error messages?
If there is a problem with the settings database or the file system privileges have been messed up, this should be logged.

Additionally to that, what Mario has pointed out, it is always a good idea to store/backup some prefereces.
I have saved things like windows layout, scripts, printings (D&P) and so on. For a lot of such things we can export or save it.

Best wishes from Switzerland! :-)

One problem fixed, the other is not.

1)
QuoteWhen IMatch always thinks it runs for the first time (showing the 'screen resolution' prompt) it may be unable to write to the settings database...
Right, one of the subfolders was write protected. I fixed that and the "splash screen" doesn't appear any more.
Thanks.

2) Keyword panel:
The following tabs are empty, if the option "show cloud" is not selected: Recent, Top50, Suggestions.
I reinstalled 5.7.2 (option repair), but it didn't help.
I reinstalled 5.7.2 (option modify), but the list on the screen "select the program features you want to install" is empty. -> I ran the installation anyways, but it didn't help.

I once had the same problem (about a year ago), but there was no obvious solution. One day it simply worked again
"sigh".

Any ideas?

All Panels work here with or without the cloud view.
Did you try to switch a couple of times?

If your settings database was somehow not writeable (?) it may now contains a mess of settings.

If all else fails you can reset all your settings:
You can try to close IMatch, rename the settings database.
IMatch then comes up with factory defaults.

- I switched several times,but no change

- I found out that the problem is not only related to "show cloud",but it's a combination with "show hierarchy ".
So, the tabs get empty if: "show hierarchy = false" AND "show cloud = false "

- I renamed the settings file and thus tried the defaults, same result

Works here even if cloud view=off and hierarchy=off.
Maybe somehow related to your keyword setup? I have no idea, really.

But not showing the hierarchy makes not much sense, unless you know your keywords well and need to squeeze in as many keywords as possible in very little screen space.

ok, so the reason is not the settings database.
Are there other files i should try and reset to default?

Actually, the reason is not to get as many keywords as possible visible. But, not showing the hierarchy leads to  a panel, which is more tidied up. I have several keyword hierarchies that i know very well.
