READ THIS: Changed the Migration process - How I shot myself into my foot!

I was not really keen on the migration process. Complicated and with many special cases. But users demanded in so they can run IMatch 5 and a trial/licensed version on the same computer.

As to be expected, there were some hiccups in the process, but I was prepared for that and expected glitches to show up in the first week. IMatch 2017 was released last Thursday and I have still not sent out emails to all users. Most users don't use the community so they will only get notice when IMatch 5 informs them about an update.

Anyway, I've changed the migration process for the just relased 2017.5.6 version. It does no longer migrate the preview cache folder.  This was nonsense from the beginning! My fault entirely. Could not think straight, to much to do in so many areas...  ::) :-[

IMatch copies the cache folder over because it is part of the  %PROGRAMDATA%\photools.com\imatch5 folder hierarchy. And this hierarchy is evaluated and copied so all settings, custom presets, templates and stuff are available in IMatch 6. But copying the cache folder is nonsense. Because IMatch 2017 will use the same cache folder as before, which means the IMatch 5 cache folder (check under Edit > Preferences > Cache). Which means that the copied folder is just dead weight and wasted disk space.

If you have already installed IMatch 2017, please

1. Check if IMatch 2017 is used in the C:\ProgramData\photools.com\IMatch5\previewcache folder for the preview cache. If this is the case, then
2. Delete the contents of the C:\ProgramData\photools.com\IMatch6\previewcache folder. This will free a lot of disk space.

On the positive side, I could streamline and test my new build/test/deployment process several times in the past week  ;)
Which is good because shipping an IMatch version is now quite a task. Not to speak of shipping IMatch Anywhere, which comes in four (!) versions.

Looking forward to saying goodbye to IM5, I now have dual IM5/IM6 installations on my desktop and my laptop. On my desktop, my Preferences/Cache pointed to IMatch5\previewcache, so I deleted IMatch6\previewcache as you directed. On my laptop, my Preferences/Cache pointed to IMatch6\previewcache, so I've left it as-is.

Once I finally ditch IM5, what's the best way to proceed? Will the uninstaller delete the 'old' IM5 Program Data IM5 folder hierarchy? If so, should I migrate the desktop cache in IMatch5\previewcache to IMatch6\previewcache and update Preferences accordingly?

See my revised KB entry which covers that: https://www.photools.com/5515/uninstalling-imatch-2015-installing-imatch-2017/
