IMatch's Smart File Renamer is a sophisticated module that renames files in elaborate ways, and I know that the Attribute Set(s) in IMatch start out being empty, but often times, I find that the functionality that is in the Smart File Renamer could benefit my data entry in the IMatch Attributes as well!  Specifically, take for instance, the ability to increment #s in the attributes, once the files have been sorted in a desired way.  This could reduce the time needed for data entry in each and every individual file, which is what the renamer is meant for in dealing with file names.

P.S.
95% of the time, modifying the file name may be desirable over that of an Attribute equivalent, but there are always exceptions - for example, if the file is exclusively on read-only media like a a CD-R, then the file name itself can't be renamed, but the file name(s) mirrored in an attribute set, then modified could possibly prove as a next-best-thing.

I have an app which writes sequential numbers into an attribute. Posted in:

However: because of a bug in the current version it does not work properly. Will be fixed with the release of
the next version of Im.

I use this to store the custom sort order in the file. I also have a renamer preset which prepends the sequence number to
the file name. I use this on copies to have the right sort order available in windows.
