Hello

Clicking on import button in "import&export" I get a blank, white window with absolutely nothing in it. I am a IMatch newbie and a little bit frustrated ....

Thanks for help.

I'm sorry but I don't understand what you mean. There is no "Import&Export" in IMatch and the Import6Export panel as no buttons labeled import.
Please describe what you are doing in a bit more detail so we can help you.

I recommend making a screen shot of what you see (by pressing <Alt>+<Print> on your keyboard). Paste the screen shot in your image editor application, crop as needed, save to disk as JPEG and attach with the "Attachment" options available below the post editor here in the community.

There are actually 4 importers:
- Adobe Lightroom Import
- Attribute Importer
- Category Import
- Import CSV Files

Which one do you mean?

I hope the user is legit. I'm sure we can help him if he is.

BUT...creating an account, making one seemingly valid post and then hoping that the moderators don't watch future posts is what we currently have to deal with (again).
We're still getting many new users who don't post anymore - since we have a forced moderator approval for each post for new users in place.
Last week new users registered and used the signature field to post link to P'rn sites and other illegal or fishy web sites. So I have disabled signatures for new users.
I hope they give up when they notice that they cannot spam this board.

Hello,

very unfriendly, Mario.
(You are German, like me?)

First, I have bought a legal license.
Secondly, there a people who have to work an can't reply immediately.

The problem occours with Lightroom import.

A screenshot is attached. See the blank window?

This is the worst company's answer I have ever got.

Hi,

we did not plan to upset you. But this was your first post after registration. It would have helped if you would have given more info, like that you have a license for IMatch, that you have problems with running the Lr importer app etc.

Please understand that we are currently flooded by spammers who register, make one post loosely related to IMatch or DAM topics, and then wait to be approved by a moderator.
Then they start immediately to flood this friendly community with SPAM, advertisements, links to P*rn web sites and worse. We need to protect this community from this scum of the internet, and sometimes a legit user is negatively affected by this. Won't happen with your account again.

Do other IMatch apps run OK on your system?
Which Windows version do you use, which version of IMatch?
Does IMatch report any problems or warnings in the application log file?  log file
Please open the App output panel via View menu > Panels > Output. Click on the Apps tab.
Run the Lr importer again. Are there any errors or warnings reported in the output panel?

You may have run into a bug in the Lr importer application. This app has been written as a convenience feature to make it easier for new users to import their images and some proprietary Lr data.
I have created this app based on Lightroom catalogs I have created and catalogs provided to me by other users. Adobe does not provide an documentation of their catalog and no help in migrating from Lightroom to other software.

Is this an empty database or does it already contain files?
How large is your Lr catalog and with which version of Lr was it created?
Can you upload the catalog somewhere so I can run some tests here? A similar error was never reported and hence I have no idea what in your catalog might break the app.

OK,

I have a LR 5.7 version on my pc (W10 64 bit) with round 40.000 pictures in the catalog (or better: catalog links to the physical files), mostly tagged with keywords. I dont want to do the work again in Imatch  2019.1.4!

So, I activated in LR "store metadata to file".

I tried to import the catalog in two ways.

1. attempt: Creating a catalog without LR importer via directories. This works, obviously without kewords. Importing LR catalog hangs - blank window.

2. attempt: Creating a new catalog without directories and triyng to import everthing via import dialog - blank window.

So, I can create a virgin-like IMatch database with links to pictures' phyisikal storage! This is quite useless for me.

I don't use other IMatch applications.

In no other application I get a blank window. A guess: is the import dialog screen a pdf-file? I use PDF-X change viewer.

Thanks for help!

Hello,
Welcome to Imatch and the user forum. Just was curious and tried the app on my machine. I do have LR 6.14 installed on my W10 machine and the import dialog works on my machine, but the catalog format may be different between major versions.

Quote1. attempt: Creating a catalog without LR importer via directories. This works, obviously without keywords. Importing LR catalog hangs - blank window.
Not sure about this, it sounds like you imported a directory or folders without the Import app, but you also mention the app hangs.
If you index files with metadata written to it, they will be available in Imatch. You don't have to use the LR importer if all you want is metadata like keywords, labels or ratings saved in the file in Imatch. You should be able to see the metadata in the meta data panel, if you looking for a specific tag not displayed you can customize the panel with the gear button and select any available tag.
I use the "Save Metadata to file" command rather than the automatic option to synchronize the meta data in Lightroom for this. You can even go back and forth, just have to make sure that you always write back the metadata before you switch programs and refresh them in the other program. Ctrl-Shift-F5 gives you the available rescan options in Imatch.

Besides importing the folders in the LR catalog, the importer app allows you to import the white and black flag, the LR collections and the keyword list. I do think you can run the importer anytime, even if the files are already indexed in Imatch.

Metadata are kind of messy and Adobe quite often isn't following their own standard. Often it helps to start just with a portion of the files to manage and make sure all options are set the way you need it for your workflow. Imatch is very powerful and flexible and there is a learning curve to it.

Quote1. attempt: Creating a catalog without LR importer via directories. This works, obviously without kewords.

Then something is wrong. IMatch automatically imports IPTC, EXIF, GPS and XMP metadata from your images. Keywords can be stored in legacy IPTC, XMP subject (flat keywords) and XMP hierarchicalSubject. IMatch knows them all and imports them.

Are you sure Lr has already written all your metadata?
If you did not use the option to store metadata to XMP before, Lr may have metadata of all your images only in the database, invisible for other applications. You need to use the "Save Metadata to File" or wait for Lr to finish writing all your metadata.
Note: When Lr is still writing metadata, IMatch will mark the images as modified in the File Window (and the folders in the Media & Folders View) and automatically re-import the metadata once Lr has finished writing the files.

QuoteImporting LR catalog hangs - blank window.

Did you try to run other apps? Try, for example, the App Manager tab. Does it show icons?

When does the Lr importer app hang?
When you start it?
Or does allow it to select a catalog and then hangs?
Did you see my questions above about the log file and the Output Panel above? It seems you have not answered them yet.

You don't NEED the Lr Importer app.

You can just add the same folders you have in your Lr catalog to your IMatch database. Drag the top-level folders from Windows Explorer to the Media & Folders View.
See the tutorial video here: https://www.photools.com/imatch-learning-center/

IMatch will automatically index your files and import all metadata contained. If you have set Lr to keep metadata only in the database, you need to change that option or use the "Write metadata to file" command on all files. Until then, IMatch (ExifTool) cannot see the data. This is independent from the Lr importer app.

The Lr importer app is just a convenience feature. It saves you the step of manually adding your folders to the database.
And it can import some proprietary data (flags and collections) which Lr only keeps in the database. And your keyword list.

If the Lr importer app does not work, your catalog is different from all catalogs imported so far. Please note that Adobe neither supports such importer apps and neither wants them. They have no interest making it easy for users to switch from Adobe products to other software. I have created the Lr importer app based on about 20 catalogs I have created and received from other users.

If it does not work for your catalog: Please upload your catalog to your cloud space (Dropbox, OneDrive, GoogleDrive, ...) and send me a link to my email address support email address
I will test the catalog and see if I can improve the Lr importer app.

It works. I looked at the metadata of my photos on the hard drive and was able to determine that the keywords are listed. I have created a new database in IMatch and pulled the photo folder into it - without the Lightroom importer. The keywords could be found in Imatch.
Thanks for the help.

The problem of the "white screen" has not been solved, but it is no longer important to me.

One more question:  In the case of tagging new photos in Imatch, the keywords also appear in Lightroom (after importing the new photos to the LR catalog)?

Thanks

Do other IMatch apps run? You can try a few via the App Manager.
If other apps work and only the Lr Importer app fails. I would still try to solve this. But I can only solve this if you make your catalog available to me.

IMatch by default (for performance reasons) writes changes to metadata only to the database. You write the metadata to the files in a separate step, on-demand or when you have time.

See Metadata Write-back in the IMatch help for information about how IMatch reads metadata, produces high-quality and consistent metadata and writes back metadata to your files.

You may also want to check the IMatch knowledge base article Using Adobe Lightroom® and IMatch together for additional tips regarding keywords and other metadata, GPS, face data etc.

Since you are a new user, check out the Visual Index in the IMatch help for a good overview of all IMatch features, and of course the many free video tutorials in the IMatch Learning Center. And the IMatch DAM Knowledge Base and of course the IMatch Help system which you can reach any time by pressing <F1> anywhere in IMatch.
