Laptop configuration of category window

I'm travelling and using IMatch on my Laptop rather then my desktop.

The category configuration (configure category panel) did not get passed across from Desktop to Laptop. i.e., I have personalized the top line of the configuration panel on my Desktop: Where, Who etc. I've lost these on the Laptop.

The database was copied onto the laptop by using pack'n'go. Username on Desktop and laptop are different.

Is this usual behavior or have I missed something... I've read through the configurations with the on-line Help.

Not a big deal - more of interest....

Thanks,
Aubrey.

1. If your user name on the laptop is different, all your settings are also separate. Use the Alias feature: User Name Alias
2. Machine-dependent configurations like screen sizes etc. are stored on a per-machine basis to not everything can be restored.
You cannnot transfer panel sizes and screen layout from a 3840 pixel desktop to a 1920 laptop, for example.

Yes I already have alias user name set.
Looks like "configure categories panel" is not passed across - no big deal.

Thanks,
Aubrey.

The settings are stored on a per-user/per-computer basis. Because they also contain panel layout, sizes etc.

I never understand why people do that ... Can you explain why you use different user names?

Carlos,
sorry for delay in replying, I had missed your question.

The desktop at home is a personal machine. The laptop I use while travelling is a business machine. I  don't want to have an account on my personal machine the same as business machine. I know I could set up an account on business machine with same name as personal, but I would rather just have one account on laptop.

I hope that kind of answers your query.

Best wishes,
Aubrey.

Ah, I understand that. Even if I wanted, I couldn't (or rather wouldn't) do that. Apart from the fact that I'm not allowed to install private software on my business laptop (being an IT admin I could, of course), the business laptop is in a domain and I would also have to first create a local account with the same name.

I have a laptop and 4 desktops.... and because they run different software levels and were setup at different times, I often use a different login user simply because I forget what was orginally setup.  My Win 7 setups never required a username/password upon boot so I never worried about what user was setup... Win10 is different and I use the login screen all the time so the username is kinda front and center and I remember it more easily.

In a home environment though, I agree using the same login info makes sense.
