Writing back metadata seems to freeze iMatch

If I have a bunch of write backs to do iMatch will freeze up. It just happened again and I had to close it by way of the taskbar. If I try to reopen Imatch it says there's already a session open and won't let me. I don't show that. I'm not sure where to go to either close it or open it.

I go into Task Manager and there's no iMatch running. Do I have to reboot?

I'd include the log file but I can't. Even if I could wouldn't that be in a new session with a new log started?

Then you did not close it really. Restart your system.

IMatch always produces a log file, and keeps the log file from the previous session too. See log file where to find them.
This sounds as if your virus checker is blocking ExifTool from writing, and after restarting it so many times, IMatch is also stuck.
The log file would immediately tell us what the problem is.

OK I restarted and attached the log file. I also just exempted both the iMatch folder and .imd5 file extension in my Win 10 virus protection.

Thanks for the help again.

Mario

This is a log file from a normal IMatch start.
It is not from a session where you wrote back some files and experienced the blocking/unresponsive issue.

We would need a log file from a session where the problem happened so we can see what IMatch/ExifTool were doing, if there were problems writing back the files, timeouts, error messages from Windows etc.

Just write back a couple of files and when it happens again, secure the log file (copy it) before restarting IMatch.
Then attach the log file to this thread.

How do I get a copy of the log files if iMatch completely freezes? I don't have access to anything. All I can do is close it down. Can I pull the file out of Explorer before restarting?

Mario

I've included the link to the log file help topic in my reply above.

Please see the section 2. IMatch Becomes Unresponsive which explains how to open the TEMP folder on your computer in Windows Explorer. It contains all log file IMatch has created. From there you can copy the file even if IMatch is not responding. Or before you restart IMatch again after forcefully closing it.
