Hi guys and girls  :)

I have already done some research (also in this forum), but unfortunately found nothing. Therefore here now my thread.

When I define categories in IMatch and select some on them, IMatch always shows me all pictures that are linked to at least one of these categories.

But I only want to see pictures that are assigned to all selected categories. So if I select the categories "Tree" and "House" I only want to see pictures with a tree AND a house NOT OR.

Is this possible? Thanks in advance for your answers  :)

Welcome to IMatch!

Yes it is possible.
The easiest way to do it is to use the Category Builder at the bottom of the Category View (see attachment).

You can also create a formula category to do the same thing (and more).

Use the filter panel and set Combine included files with AND?

Mario

As the two other posters pointed out above, this is easy to do.

If you need this only temporarily, you can use the Category Filter in the Filter Panel. Just enable the check mark for the categories you want to combine and make sure the AND boolean operation is enabled.

If you need this more permanently, you can use the Category @Builder to combine any number of categories via drag & drop. The Boolean operations OR AND and NOT are supported, as well as ( ) to create more complex expressions. You can use the @Builder category directly to see the result. And you can save the resulting formula by creating a formula-based category.

A third way would be to creating a new category and then use the the Category Formula Editor to manually click together the category formula you need. The @Builder is more interactive and easier for new users. The formula editor gives you access to the full set of Category Formulas.

Hi John, Hi ubacher and Hi Mario,

thank you very much for your answers :) In my case the category filter in the filter panel is the best. But I have the following problem with that: I selected the categories, clicked on them and then clicked on "Apply the filter" (or whatever it is called in the English version).

But not much happens. At the very bottom it says "Load normal" and that's it. At the top, a blue bar still says "No filters activated".

How do I activate a filter or do I do something else wrong?  :-\

Mario

Make sure the Category Filter is enabled (blue bar) and also the orange "Filter Panel" in the list on top is enabled.

Filters can be complex to set up and if you work with large scopes of several 100thousand files you may not always want the File Window to update. Hence, each filter can be activated/de-activated separately via the check box in the filter caption. You enable it when you are done setting it up. Or disable it, when you currently don't need it - especially useful when you have multiple filters active.

You can activate/de-activate stored filters and/or the currently set filter options in the Filter Panel as needed via the Filter Manager at the top. The orange "Filter Panel" list entry represents the currently loaded and activated filters in the panel.

Tip: Click into the Filter Panel and press <F1> on your keyboard to open the Filer Panel help topic in the IMatch help. It explains everything in detail.

If you want to use the filter panel for your task, make sure you not only mark the categories, but also check the "Categories" filter in the Filter Panel and the orange entry "Filter Panel" (the top one) in the Filter Manager. Then it should work. You can also attach a screenshot showing us what you selected. Would it make easier to help...
