I'm trying to create an IMatch (2020) workflow based on using the software to organize a group of PDF files. I've read the various forum posts over the past several years and know that IMatch cannot search the text layer which may in some cases be present in some PDFs. My question is if it's possible to create a structure within the Categories Panel which shows the keywords I've assigned in XMP::pdf. I've played around with the category formula editor but wasn't able to hit on something which would work. If possible I'd like to stick with the straight pdf metadata rather than using IMatch to insert lightroom style hierarchical keywords.

You can access proprietary PDF metadata via variables.
Use the Metadata Panel in "Browser" layout to see all data IMatch has imported. Right-click the tag name and use "Copy as variable" to get the variable name.

Note that none of the keyword features in IMatch works with non-keywords like you are planning to use.
It might be wiser to copy your existing keywords from proprietary PDF data into standard XMP hierarchical keywords IMatch uses.

Note that in the Metadata panel there is a layout specific to PDF.
