Crash after moving some files in the Import&Export - Panel on the SECOND Monitor

Mario,
I have a crash with IMatch, and it tells me, that it will create a dump-file, but now I wait still 15 minutes, nothing happens, the monitor shows the image, what I have attached.

Two time I ended IMatch with the Task Manager.
Then I opened IMatch again, in the "warn-box" I clicked "continue" and the DB is again there, all is fine.

I can reproduce this, after using the Task Manager to exit IMatch.

I open IMatch, select one or several images in the "Media & Folders" and try to move them to the Import & Export - Panel. (to the image Batch processor).

This panel is on my second monitor.
And bevor the mouse reaches the panel, IMatch ends with the image you can see.

This happens several times, open IMatch, select some pitures (I tried jpg and also only 1 nef), crash.

Now I will terminate IMatch again and move the panel on the main monitor and will try again.
Tried and that works fine, with the panel on the same monitor like IMatch.

Curious: some days ago (hmm, maybe 4-5) I did exactly the same, the panel on the second monitor and moved some images to the "Image Batch processor" without problems. Means, not long ago it worked, not more now.

I did not change something, but what I do not know, if maybe Windows did something in the last days.

Means: for me not a big problem, I have to move the panel, but nevertheless it is courious.
And no dump in the tmp-folder.

Best wishes from Switzerland! :-)

The DUMP file is created by Windows and it will notify the crash handler dialog in IMatch when it is done.
Even for systems with 64GB or more RAM, this should take only a few minutes.

We've recently had a situation where Windows Defender blocked the DUMP file from being generated.
If you use Windows Defender, try to make an exception for the IMatch program files folder. The executable running when IMatch crashes is in that folder and named 'C:\Program Files\photools.com\imatch6\ptdebug.exe'.

Without an IMatch log file and the DUMP file this will be impossible to analyze.

I see, I will check the defender, I guess, I have only the program itself enabled as an exception.

OK, Mario
I did exclude the folder in defender, helps not, I cannot see a dump-file. I searched also the whole C and looked in the %temp% folder .. no dump.

I did also a restart from the computer, helps also not.

Attached the log, maybe it helps, but I guess not.
But does not really matters, I will move this panel on my main monitor and then it is ok again.:D
So, use not your time for this.

Vielleicht haben Computer ein Eigenleben und das Panel will nun einfach nur arbeiten, wenn es bei den anderen ist  8)

This is the backup IMatch creates from the log file when you start IMatch new.
Please attach the IMATCH6_LOG.TXT from right after you experience the crash. Maybe it contains a hint.

I've tried to reproduce this by moving the Import & Export Panel to my second monitor and then dragging files from the Media & Folders View to the Batch Processor panel. It works just fine, no crashes or problems.
I've tried different screen resolutions and scales (DPI settings) and it worked.

This could be caused by anything, from a problem in IMatch, the UI framework to a glitch in the display driver installed on your system. Without a DUMP file that indicates the actual point of error, impossible to analyze.

Mario,
thanks for your input.

This was a log from a crash like I described. Because I startet IMatch new several times (at least for sure 10x) and then sent the backup form the last log, to be sure, that it was the one with a crash.
So a new log would not help also.

I would say, I wait some days and tries again. Maybe it is something on my machine or something with an windows update.
Finally it does not harm, all what I have to do, before I move some files to this panel, I have to move it to the main monitor.

And I use the image batch processor not that often, and D&P works fine with Ctrl p.  :)

You can also create Favorites for the Batch Processor presets you use a run them from the Favorites panel or via a keyboard shortcut.

Just to be sure, do you dismiss that message with the Ok button?...(perhaps it is only then that the IMatch Crash Handler will begin generation of the Dump File?)...

Thanks, Tony

When the message appears, the blue "circle" beginns to "sprin around".
I can move this circle with the mouse, but I cannot click on a button, I can also not move the whole message-box, I can simply do nothing.
I tried this yesterday, and tried it just now again, to be sure. Same like yesterday.

But I can do it with the tip from Mario, if I choose a preset from the "Image batch processor" with a created favourites, then it works fine. :)

Click into the message IMatch displays and then on OK.
Otherwise no DUMP file can be created.

If this cannot work, something (virus checker) is blocking the DUMP executable IMatch has launched and which is used to inform the user and to create the DUMP file. The only thing I can think of would be the installed virus checker.

OK.

Just 30 minutes ago or so I answered the post of Tony.
As I wrote there, I checked it again and IMatch cratched like yesterday.

Like I wrote above, I could not click on ok or move the message box.
And like Mario advised I did an exeption for the folder, where the IMatch-dump is inside (... imatch6\ptdebug.exe).

And I have "only" the windows defender.
After the 30 minutes after the crash just now I did nothing exept read in the forum and have spotted, that you (Mario  ;D ) released a new version.

OK; I backuped my DBs and backuped the phototools-folder.
Then I updated to the very new version. (2023.2)

And then I tried again, like 30 minutes before: no problem. I can move one or several images into the panel on the second monitor, works fine. Problem gone.

So finally, I do not know, but updated the new IMatch version, I did really nothing else ... and my problem vanished.
Very cool.

Best wishes from Switzerland! :-)

Mysterious...
Sounds like like a virus checker issue to me.
Maybe Defender had a signature that matched IMatch 2023.1.22 but not 2023.2.2 - and hence it now leaves IMatch alone and everything works again as it should. Who knows...
