Hi,

I did just upgrade from good old IMatch 3.6 and realized that I have a bit of learning to do. I have started to switch from hierarchical categories to hierarchical keywords. And now I realized that there is face recognition built into IM which I'm experimenting with.

I have tried to find out how I could use detected faces + keywords to find particular images but I can't figure out how to do that.

Could someone give me some advice on how to do find a image that contains person X who's added through face detection + keyword Y? Using keywords I could do it through the builder.

I'm sure that I missing something trivial or trying to over complicate something.

IMatch 3.x to IMatch 2023 is a jump over more than a decade ;) Looks like you've got good mileage out of IMatch 3.

Make sure to check out the free video tutorials in the IMatch Learning Center for a smoother start.

There are several ways to do what you want.

I would start with the Filter Panel.

A) Switch to the People View and select the persons you're interested it.
hen use the @Keywords hierarchy in the Category Filter to show only files for that persons with one or more specific keywords.

- or -

B) Switch to the @Keywords category representing the keyword and then use the People Filter in the Filter panel to show only files for specific persons for that keyword

- or -

C) Use the @Keywords hierarchy in the Categories Filter to filter by one or more keywords. Combine that with the People Filter to filter for one or more persons. This allows you to filter for people and keywords from everywhere.

This allows you to filter files in the current scope (what is shown in the File Window) by keywords and persons.
The scope can be a folder, a category, a Timeline node, a collection or the entire database, depending on what you bring into the File Window. This is the most flexible solution.

Note that you can configure your persons to automatically assign keywords / categories to files when the person gets assigned to a face in a file. For many users, this avoids assigning keywords manually in many cases. Assign a person to a face, and the file gets one to many keywords associated with the person, family, team or whatever.

Thanks! This helped me, didn't realize that this feature was "hidden" behind show details on the person card. Now I will magically get the keywords added.

I do need to check the tutorials but I'm more of a learning by doing guy... I like the pain of redoing things...

As you might have noticed when jumping from IMatch 3 to IMatch 2023, I've put a lot of work into the documentation / IMatch Help System: https://www.photools.com/help/imatch/ or Press <F1> anywhere in IMatch for context-based help.

It's well worth reading because IMatch is very powerful a pro-grade DAM system. It packs tons of features. Some you might never use, some you will find indispensable and some you'll use only four times a year, but then you'll be happy they exist.
Not even I can know or remember everything about all features anymore. This is why the help is so detailed - I use it myself  ;D

What you have so far experienced as "face recognition" is actually part of a much larger set of person-related features you won't find in other applications. IMatch can do a lot more with faces than other software. From person, families to teams to face arrangements (one person, two persons, many persons, close-up, ...) to linking persons to IMatch Events (another very powerful feature you might have never heard of).

The People help topic explains everything that is to know about face recognition and persons. And it's a lot because it can do so much and is such a central part of IMatch. Press <F2> after opening the people help topic via the link to see the table of contents on the left for easier orientation. The Person Keywords and Categories explains about keywords and categories associated with persons.
