Hello all
All in all I am very happy with Imatch, but there is something strange. I often add keywords to images and remove keywords. After that I click the small yellow pencil, program says "Updating matadate in files..." and I can see the new keywords and can see that the keywords I removed are gone. But. When the program is done with the update, keywords revert to the earlier states. The keywords I added are gone, and the keywords I removed are back. So I adda and  / otr remove again and click the yellow pencil again. SOmetimes after this second round the changes stick. But never after the first click!! Often I have to go through this three, four or even five times before the changes actually remain. I really do like the program, but as I work a lot with keywords it is quite a nuisance to be forced to do the same thing over and over again. I do not understand why the program can not really do the updating on the first click on the yellow pencil?

Please create an extra line break now and then to make your post better readable.
I often use my phone and your post is a wall of text. If you want support, making your posts easy for others to read is helpful.

Did you read: Metadata Problems and Pitfalls?
It should answer your question.

In 99% of all cases the reason for this kind of behavior are out-of-sync keywords in legacy IPTC and/or XMP subject.
The outcome of this depends on the settings you use in Edit > Preferences > Metadata, your Thesaurus and the keywords in your files. And the file format, if it is a RAW file.

Please provide the info requested (screen shots of your settings), a sample image (so we can see the keywords in your image before you tried to edit them).

As a first measure to provide us with a minimum of information, run the Metadata Analyst on the image you have used for your test and use the BIG GREEN button at the top to copy the relevant results into the clipboard and from there into your reply.

You see how much easier it is to read posts when they use paragraphs?

Here is how my reply would look without any formatting:

Since you are a new user, I wonder if this might also be the result of incorrect usage.

Based on your description, it sounds like you might be proceeding directly to clicking the Write-Back Pen, after having added some Keywords in the Keywords Panel.

The "flow" of this data (just as with changes made in the Metadata Panel) is as follows:

  • Keywords Panel (keywords added/updated via Entry or Thesaurus Selection)
  • Keywords committed to the Database (Green Checkmark)
  • Keywords committed to the file (Write-Back)

In #1, the Keywords you have added/deleted do appear at the Top of the Keywords Panel, but at this point they're not truly associated with the file yet...(you could cancel that update if desired).  It's not until you explicitly commit the changes to the file, by clicking the Green Checkmark in the Panel's toolbar (#2), or you implicitly commit them, by selecting another file to work with, that the changes are actually saved into the database.

If you proceed directly to the writeback operation, there might be an implicit commit, but there also might not be (depending on other background operations I imagine).  Which would explain what you describe as sometimes needing several attempts to get the keywords to stick.

IMatch will always implicitly commit changes to the "old file" when selecting a new one (the same as doing it explicitly, by clicking the Green Check).  A typical workflow for this would be:

    ....> Update Keywords .......
    :                           :
    :.... Select new File(s) <..:

...and then write back all updated files at once (select them all with Ctrl+A, and click the Write-Back Pen on one of them).
