Finding Modified NEF Files

I have no doubt with the depth of this program this is doable, but I'm unsure where to start.

As I'm finally getting all my shots organized I have found that I have a bunch of NEF files, edited in CNX2, that are still floating around in my general import folder. What I do now is copy a file to my "working" folder before doing edits, but prior to this things were very ad hoc.

What I would like to do is use a data driven category or a script of find all files in a certain folder (and all of it's sub folders) where the file was edited in CNX2 and the file is not a "Child" in a Version set.

I've looked through the Nikon specific metadata to see if there was something there I could use, but nothing seemed obvious.

I thought perhaps a script that would compare the capture and modified times and have it output files that don't have any file relations, but I'm sure this will then also output a bunch of files with modified metadata that aren't edited otherwise.

Any thoughts fellow NEF users?

You can use a filter to show/hide versions (File Properties Filter). To tell if a file was edited by CNX, check the metadata of the file to see if CNX somewhere leaves a note or copyright string. Many applications do. The you can filter for this value.

I don't have CnX but sometimes use ViewNx2. Nikon writes the software name to this tag: {File.MD.Exif::Main\305\Software\0}.

Look it up in the Metadata panel in Browser mode, you'll see what CnX writes there and use it as a filter as Mario has suggested.

In your post I read "...where the file was edited in CNX2 and the file is not a "Child" in a Version set."  You should be cautious if you set up your relations with NEF as version, unless you use version in a broad sense (master + version).

PS I made a quick test, the filter isolates all NEF e.g. converted with ViewNx2. You can use the same vaiavle to set up a data-driven category. In the Tag selector use Group: Exif and Tag: Software. Should work.

There is also an xmp::exif\Software tag, does not work for me...

Francis, yes you were totally right. I missed that field before when going through the metadata browser. The field you mentioned is populated with "Capture NX (Ver #)" for the edited files.

That answers my question.

Interesting.. Since your question was about a data-driven category you might set one up like on this screen.

Notice the filter, and that the output sorts the pictures converted with different versions of the nx
