I am having trouble with different forms of Location. I can create a Location in the Map panel and apply its coordinates to related files. The GPS coordinates then appear in the metadata but the Location name does not appear in any metadata fields that I can find.
I can set up a location as a Category, but this does not relate directly with a Map panel Location. I could perhaps (not sure how) have the Map Panel Locations appear as Categories, but some categories will have GPS coordinates, and others covering a wide area e.g. "Mount Fuji" cannot have precise coordinates and are probably best without any.
I would be grateful for any advice.

The name of the location is only the name you give that location to know what's what in the Map panel. The name of the map location is not copied into the metadata or anything.

There is a GPS metadata tag named location. You can fill this tag from your map panel location, like the coordinates or the city, country and other data. All fields you fill in for the location are copied into the GPS record when you apply a location.

Unless you did already, you may also want to enable reverse geo-coding (automatic mapping of GPS coordinates to the location (county, city, location name.) in IMatch. See the help for details on how to do this, how to select the map provider and all related functionality.

Thanks Mario for your help. How would I automatically fill the GPS location tag from my Map Panel location.
If I can do this then I could create data driven categories for my category tree.

Just fill out the data in the Location and IMatch copies it into the GPS record when you apply the location:

Yes it copies the data into the GPS record but doesn't copy the Map Panel name of the location, so I have no way of creating a data driven category from these Map Panel locations.
But I have found that when I open "Edit Locations", and I copy the Map Panel Locations:/Name: (at the top of the "Edit Locations" box) into the GPS Location: (near the bottom of the box) this does indeed fill the Composite\Location\Location\0 field which is what I need. :)
However I still have a slight problem that all the files which have previously had this map location applied, still have an empty GPS Location: field empty (as shown in the Default Metadata panel).
I need a way of updating each file's GPS Location data to insert the Location: name added in the "Edit Location" box.
I have tried Commands/ Add or Update Folders, but this doesn't update it.
How can I get the GPS Location field updated in files which previously had a Map location assigned.

As I said above, the name you give the location in the map panel has nothing to do with GPS data.

If you don't fill the location GPS tag in your location, IMatch does not do anything with it.
Please see the corresponding help for information about how locations work.

QuoteHow can I get the GPS Location field updated in files which previously had a Map location assigned.

Fill out the locations properly (include text in the location field, city, country etc as needed) and then apply the location again.
The data-driven category will show all files without a location in "Other" so that makes them easy to find.
