Presets (Not available)

I'm on vacation so I did a Pack and Go from my Desktop and took my laptop.  Everything is working well except when I went to export some pictures it does not find any of the default presets.  I checked in Preferences and the directory is correct.  I then realized that I did not create the same user name on the laptop that I have on the desktop.  I have already loaded pictures and did some work on this Laptop.

My question is "Do I have to create an new user on the Laptop and then go back and reload my .impag that I created on my desktop"?  If I do this then I will lose the work I just recently did on the laptop.  How should I proceed?  If I create a new pack and Go then won't all of my presets I created on my desktop still be missing since they don't show up now?

Thanks!

Mike

Many settings are stored 'per-user', kept separate by the user name you log in with.
As you correctly assume, when you replace your existing PTS file with another PTS file, only the settings of that PTS file will prevail. IMatch has no feature to 'merge' PTS files or anything.

The idea of the PTS file is simple: You can transfer it between computers, and all settings will travel along. And when you use the same user name on the other computer, all per-user settings will be available on all your machines. You can even synchronize settings via a cloud store if you like,

Mario:

Thanks for the quick reply.  I'm trying to use the Presets (For Web(800x600), For Print (5x7...) etc to export some pictures.  I see all of the presets in C:\Program Data\photools\Imatch5\presets.  Is there any way I can point my existing laptop IMATCH to use these (in preferences they are already pointing to them)?

I also have created new categories and associated a few thousand images to these newly created categories.  I had planned on exporting them from this Laptop back to my desktop when I get back.  Will this issue/problem I am facing affect this?

It sounds like I should create a new user on my Laptop with the exact same user name as I use on my desktop and use restore within pack and go on the original file I exported from my desktop before I left for vacation.  Do you agree?  If I can export the category work that would save about 4 hours.  Do I need to create a new user and login on the Laptop via Control Panel (new User)  or can I just create a user with the same name as the desktop using Windows Explorer?

Thanks Mario for helping me.

IMatch ships with a set of default presets in the folder. These presets are loaded when a user first opens the Batch Processor to give him some initial presets to work with. The presets are then stored in the per-user section of the PTS file.

If you want to re-import or share batch processor presets later, just use the Import & Export functions available in the preset manager. Click on the Manage button next to the preset list, and in the dialog that opens on Import. The Import dialog by default opens the IMatch system Presets folder, unless you have already loaded presets from another folder previously.

I can only see the Manage presets when I drag and image to Image Batch Processor.  I was dragging images to email under Import/Export and this is where I saw the presets for the Iphone.  When I drag an image to email I don't have the ability to see Manage Presets like I do on my Desktop so this must have something to do with the different users between my desktop and Laptop.

Did you see my question below about how I should proceed (should I start over and create a new user with the same name as my Desktop within control panel?

You cannot manage Batch Processor Presets (or import/export them) from the E-Mail module.
You can only select from existing presets. If you want to manage Batch Processor presets, open the Batch Processor.

As I said, you cannot merge two PTS files. Which means that you can either keep your existing settings, or replace them.
If you have created a Batch Processor Preset you want to keep, export it to a file on disk, and later re-import it after replacing the PTS file.
