I'm not sure, if there is an option for, I found nothing in the help-file.

If I have a set of e.g. 10 pics with a castle, where on three a dog is visible, then I want to assign 7 only to 'Castle' and three to 'Castle'  and also to 'Dog'.

But if I select the three ones and assign them to either 'Dog' or 'Castle', then they dissapear from the un-assigned-view ... In IM36 I could assing as much categories as necessary ...

Hi Gerd,

What I'll do is a situation like that is to first bookmark (or temporarily assign those same unassigned images to some collection where they are the only images in that collection.  Then I'll switch to that collection and assign the categories, when I'm done I remove them from the bookmark (or whichever) collection.

Doing it that way you're working with the same images that had been unassigned but they won't disappear on you as soon as you assign a category to them.

If you assign a picture to a category it will disappear from the "Unassigned Files" category because IT IS now assigned to some category. But as JohnZeman says, there is an easy solution to that.

Please be careful to not confuse the Categories view (left hand side of the standard layout) with the Categories panel (F9,c). Me at least fell into this trap when I started to use IMatch 5. Using the Categories panel it is very easy to just select one or more pictures and then checkmark the categories you want.

Dear both,

you brought me to an idea! Thx!

I do it now in this way: I created a category 'A_NEW' (hopefully, some day it will be at the top due to the A_ ... :-)  ).
All un-assigned pictures get the cat 'A_New'. From here I start to assign to the cats I want and at least I de-assing from A_NEW.

P.S. the methode above has the disadvantage, that I every time have to scroll to the A_NEW-cat. But also here a better way: I have two windows on the right side, one, that contains the catogory-panel and the other contains the Category-History. In Category-History I also can assign and de-assign. If I have made my assignments, the it's ony necessary  to shift-click in the window Category-History on the A_NEW-cat. That works also very quick!
