I tried to use categories in the filter option to display files with a specific category. I ticked the <Active> and the <Categories> in the filter panel and the <Auto> was on as can be seen from the following screenshot:

But in the file window nothing happed at all, although these categories are defintely associated with respective photos:

(The screenshot above shows the file window in category mode)

Funnily enough if I use <Attributes> for a query, using the filter panel in exactly the same way it works spot on, as you can see in following screenshots:

I am sure I make a mistake. But which one? At least I though I read the help text throroughly enoug.

From what I can tell in your screen shots, you tried to filter the file window contents in the Media & Folders view to show only files contained in the category "KUBA STRASSEN" (direct assigned or via formula).

You show only the contents of one folder in the file window (PHOTO CANON IM5 TEST), and the filter works only on the files in that folder. Unless your KUBA STRASSEN photos are in that folder, you will not find anything.

Remember: Filters work on the current scope, which is what you see in the file window.

Solutions:

1. Switch on the hierarchical display for the file window so it shows not only the files in PHOTO CANON IM5 TEST but also the files in the sub-folders of that folder. Then your filter will be able to find the files.

2. Select the drive node N: to see all the files on that drive. Then apply your filter.
(Drive nodes automatically display all files on that drive and therefore the filter is applied to all these files.)

3. Select the database node and apply your filter.
(The database node displays all files in the database and the filter is therefore applied to all files.)

Thanks, Mario. Works now perfectly and(!) fast. Played also around with combinations of differently filters. No hick ups, whatsoever. One little recommendation: Perhaps the wording "select a drive node" in the help file should be in italic as well! I actually just overread it although it's clearly there. Guess that most of the users want to search their total database in the first place.

Thank you for the feedback. But I will forget it in less than a minute, sorry. I don't even know which of the hundreds of help pages you mean...

Feedback for the IMatch help please always via the dedicated Feedback link available at the bottom of each help topic.
