Firstly I hope that it is OK to post this message here. If not, please redirect me to the right place.

We have a collection of photos that we would like to store in a DB and make collections available on line.
We have written a requirements spec and started to research available options.
Obviously iMatch came up most often! Hence this post on this forum.

Although we have managed to install iMatch and load sample images into the database, we have not been able to import our keywords and experience the features of the iMatch Anywhere.

Initially we would like to chat with a DAM expert to check that iMatch is the right route for us.
(Maybe there is an 'off the shelf' package that meets our needs.)
If it is, then we probably will require some help to develop and customise our iMatch installation.

Any advice on where or how to find this 'guru' would be much appreciated.
We are UK (London) based but would love to work with anyone, anywhere in the world (good comms in English is the only requirement)

cheers

Hi, Jon

QuoteAlthough we have managed to install iMatch and load sample images into the database, we have not been able to import our keywords

This is usually automatic. If your keywords are stored in the image files (in IPTC or XMP metadata) or in XMP sidecar files, IMatch will automatically import your keywords. You can see the in the Keyword Panel and also under the special @Keywords category in the Category View.

If this does not happen, we would need more info. Which kind of applications do you use? Where did you input your keywords?
If you have your keywords in some sort of external file/storage, give us more details to work with.

Quoteand experience the features of the iMatch Anywhere.

IMatch AnywhereTM has been designed to be easy to use, especially for users who are not IT people or 'Admins'.
Usually you just install it, point it at your database and it works. If there are problems is usually caused by a firewall, Apple devices not playing well with the standards etc.
If you can give us some more details about where you got stuck, we should be able to solve this.

Maybe the IMatch Anywhere FAQ already has the answers for your question.

I prefer communication via this community because then other users can chime in and help out. And we all learn from the questions asked and the answers given. But you can also contact me anytime via my official support email: https://www.photools.com/support/

Hi Mario

I'm working with Jon and it's my images and data we have been trying to import. We could import a sample of JPEG images into the program and also append keywords manually. But we couldn't get the separate image data to go in. It's in the form of an Excel sheet. The image names are a number, and the Excel 2010 sheet which includes that number, as well as other attributes for each image. For example for the photo of a film can:

9635717   Apr-12   photography, film, transparency film, colour film, discontinued, Kodak, colour slides, 35mm, 35mm film, 35mm slide film, slides, Kodachrome, yellow, red, colour, Kodachrome 200, film canister, film can   Kodachrome film can

This example (with a reduced number of attributes) shows the JPEG's 7-digit number, the date it was taken, some keywords, and a title.

The images start out as Nikon Raw, and end up output as JPEGs from Lightroom.

We can't get this data to import. Tried various things, replacing the keywords commas with semicolons etc, but data doesn't seem to want to go in.

Any help greatly appreciated.

David

So you are trying to import data from a CSV file into the metadata of your images?

Please attach a sample of a CSV file you are trying to import and make a screen shot of the CSV import app so we can see how you have configure it.

Note: The CSV file must contain the fully qualified file name in one column. Else it will be unable to lookup the file in the database.
