folder/category specific sort options

I know, something similar has been discussed before (https://www.photools.com/community/index.php?topic=4548.msg30716#msg30716), but I'd like to re-iterate this a a feature request for iMatch 2017.

What I'd like to have is to be able to set specific sort options (what to sort on, ascending/descending, ...) that stick to specific folders/categories.

Example: By default, I use a sorting by filename only, ascending. But on certain folders or categories (and only those that I specifiy), I would prefer sorting by date modified, descending (last modified files first).
Right now, I have to either constantly change sort options when I switch between different folders/categories and/or scroll up and down a lot.

How it would work? By default, sort options would be set and applied as before. Now, when I want a specific sorting on a specific category, I would click a button like "Local sort options" and then I could specify the sort options only for that category. Or a toggle "Global/Local sort options" to switch between global and local, i.e. folder/category specific, sorting.

Internally, iMatch could simply maintain a table with local sort options and upon displaying files, it could then either apply the global or local sorting.

Since Imatch is able to keep the sort order for folders and categories it should be simple to also store the wanted sort order.
It only gets hairy when you have multiple folders or categories displayed. What sort order would one have then? Probably the
same as we have now (last used/set)

I second your request!

1. You always have the possibility to set a sort profile for your layout. This means that IMatch restores the layout and a specific sort order.

2. For IMatch 2017.8.2 I have modified the behavior of the Remember Layout feature. It now also stores the selected sort profile and the state of the reverse sort order option.

See https://www.photools.com/customer_portal/index.html#/relnotes for more info.

Does that mean I have to create a different layout for each folder where I want a specific sort order and manually select that layout?
That's not what I meant. My request was to be able to define a specific default sort (not a complete layout!) for specific folders/categories which is rememberred and automatically (!) applied when I switch to the corresponding folder/category. That's something completely different.

Mario

No. Please re-read my post.
The sort order and reverse option is now automatically saved with the preferred layout. Just try it out with the 2017.8.2 release.

Sorry Mario, I hadn't realized that, as I'm still normally working with iMatch 5, so I'm not yet completely familiar with iMatch 2017 (far from it ...)

Mario

This feature exists in IMatch 5 but it saves only the layout on a per folder/category basis. Now it also remembers the sort profile and order (IMatch 2017.8.2)
