I have read here, that an "MCI player" has been removed from the Quick View:

But there is still a player, when I select a video file (see attachment). Is this the MCI player and should I avoid to use it?

This has been put back by popular demand. But Microsoft does not really maintain MCI anymore and I cannot recommend to use it. Unfortunately MS has so far failed to provide a suitable successor control applications can embed. Probably patent or royalty payment issues (video formats are notorious for patents and thus royalty payments). I can only recommend using an external video and audio player.

OK, I managed to let him play MOV and MP4 files, but when I pause him, switch to another tab (Categories), so that the "Quick View" is no longer visible, select another file in the file window and switch back to the "Quick View", it won't play the file until I reselect it again.

But OK, I just turn it off in the options and will do, as if it does not exist. Will use Ctrl+Enter then.
