I'd like to have an option to tell the Renamer to automatically set the Global Sequence number to 1 when I open the Renamer (or chose another preset).

I understand the interest to continue renaming with the next number under certain circumstances, but in my case, number always restart at 1 for a new date, so to rename files I always have to first manually change the Global Sequence number to 1 before renaming.

It would be useful to have the possibility to configure it one way or the other, depending on your workflow. I practically never continue where the previous renaming ended, but always restart at 1.

This used to bother me too. I ended up writing a renamer script which checks
what the highest number used so far was (for a given day) and continues from there.
(Because I name files like 2017-12-20 123 and I want to have them unique in the db.)

The global sequence number has been explicitly designed to retain a global unique value which always increments unless explicitly reset by the user.
If you want a number that always starts by 1 and then increments for the current Renamer run, use File Number (# of the file). This will start with 1 for the first file.
For a list of all available steps, please refer to the Renamer help.
