Had problems with NEF codecs - now am fixing.

For some reason random images in IMatch 2017 did not show the full-size embedded preview for nef files.  I started looking into it and realized I had Nikon codec, Windows codec, and Fast Picture Viewer free trial codec for nef files.

I was not sure which codec IMatch was selecting.  How would it know which one to use?  So I deleted all codecs EXCEPT Nikon, and made sure the Nikon provided codec was up to date.  Fortunately, Nikon is doing a good job of providing current updates.

So I restarted my PC (Windows 7) and began re-scanning problem files or folders in IMatch.  Unfortunately, this did not work.  Instead I had to remove files from the database completely and then add them back again.  Now all viewer images are perfect (and fast) and hopefully any new images will not have this problem.

Is there an easier way to fix this problem?  Now I am inclined never to add Windows codec package or any codec package other than Nikon.

P.S.  Just noticed this post.  Looking forward to this added feature.  https://www.photools.com/community/index.php?topic=7318.msg50805#msg50805

1. Forcing a rescan is the same as removing the file from the database and adding it again.

This addition has already been released some weeks ago.

Did you do a rescan or a forced rescan? Forced rescan would be what you need.

I right click and it says rescan.  I do not see any option for "force rescan".  Where would this be?

Thanks.

Excuse me it says "Rescan Now".

Okay now I find it after your post (Thanks) and searching the recesses of the Help guide for a secret code - CTL key then click Rescan.  Why is something important like this not more visible and easy to find ?   Force Update - Rescan Option

Now that I see my options under the advanced Rescan menu, would it be faster, but still fix the preview problems, to select "Update Cache Only" ?

Forced Rescan: Shift+Ctrl+F5.
A normal rescan will not re-create the thumbnail or cache image if the original image has not changed.
Rebuilding only the cache is faster, but does not re-create the thumbnail and other visual query data extracted from the original file.

If you have fixed the WIC codec issue, a forced rescan of all affected will cause IMatch to reload everything, re-create thumbnail and cache. It also now will get proper image information, dimensions etc. from the matching codec.
Note: Write back your metadata first, if there are pending write-backs.

Thanks, working great now that I know the right command.

AND, the previews seem like they are popping up so much faster than in the older IMatch versions.  Really nice.

If you came from a version prior to 5.5, you will really enjoy the hardware-based rendering in the Viewer and Quick View Panel.
And the 64-bit edition of IMatch is also faster in many areas.
