Importing Metadata (rights) with tags from other tools (Fuji RAF)

Hello,

I struggle with taking over metadata from the images with entries from other programs. The attached XMP file does not accept copyright.
Before refresh the file, the copyright is shown via Exiftool in the xmp-file.
Ratings, labels, keyword, title are taken over.

The RAW himself has no xmp or IPTC entries.

Why problems with the copyright tag? Importing the picture / xmp into LR, PhotoSupreme or PhotoMechanic is working.

Sure, if there is only a problem with one tag, I can solve this problem after importing my old pictures. There is of course a stupid feeling, if something hooked.

Thanks for helping

Matthias

I've made an other test and have imported the RAW-File into iMatch. The RAW has no xmp or IPTC entries.

After setting label, rating, copyright, titel, keywords I've write back the metadata.

The next step was to import the file into LR. Here was no problem. Without changing anything I've exported the metafiles into the xmp-file.

After refreshing the file in iMatch the entry for the copyright was gone.

This happens only with the copyright field as far as I can judge now.

iMatch is not able to change the RAW-File. For the Fuji-RAW this is the standard setting

I found the cause, I think.

As a test I have issued the Metadata Working Group conformity. Then the problem was gone.

The cause is apparently that iMatch can not describe Fuji's compressed RAW files. Since the copyright is also stored in the RAW file, iMatch apparently tries unsuccessfully to match it and sets the field to blank again.

IMatch has no problems with Fuji RAF files.

I'm quite sure that your RAF has an empty Copyright notice in the EXIF and this overrides the XMP during import when MWG compliance is enabled.
If the copyright in the EXIF and the XMP differ, the application who has written the XMP should have updated the copyright. Or you have to switch IMatch to a non-MWG workflow to ignore such discrepancies in the metadata associated with your images.

We discussed exactly this problem only two or three days ago here in the community.

Hi Mario,

I have again tested thoroughly and can confirm that the RAW has an empty copyright entry. Yesterday I looked wrong  ;)

After changing the settings for RAW:

- Write EXIF Data = YES

iMatch has changed the [IFD0] Copyright tag. There was a mistake on my side yesterday - iMatch is working well.

Do you recommend to allow iMatch to write EXIF and IPTC Data into the RAW-File?

QuoteDo you recommend to allow iMatch to write EXIF and IPTC Data into the RAW-File?

IMatch does this since mid 2013. So far there was never a damaged RAW file reported. And ExifTool is used by millions of users...

The only way to establish proper synchronization between XMP and EXIF/IPTC/GPS in the image is allowing IMatch to update the EXIF. I highly recommend keeping the XMP and the embedded metadata in sync.
If you don't want this you can disable MWG compliance. And set IMatch to not write IPTC/EXIF to your RAF files. But then you'll end up with different sets of EXIF/IPTC/GPS data in the XMP and the image. This may cause problems later.
