If you are using a licensed version of IMatch. I have allayed used a licensed version of IMatch.

There might be a quicker way to do this, but to get my images to appear where I want them to appear in my message, I do it in two steps, as follows:

Your first step is to make your post exactly as you have done in your first post above.
(And your post will now show one or more thumbnails for the image(s) that you 'attached' when you first 'posted' your message.)

The second (multi-part) step is to do the following (and of course do this for each thumbnail image if you have more than one) -

Right-click on the thumbnail image in your posted message, and copy that thumbnail's 'current' URL, including its https... prefix.
(For example, In Firefox, the thumbnail's right-click context menu invites me to "Copy image location".)

Now RE-edit ("Modify") the text in your post, then click (to place your text-entry point) in the place where you want your image to appear.

From the Edit buttons in the mini 'toolbar' above the text input field, choose the first button "Insert Image".

This will automatically insert the familiar (but empty) pair of 'img' tags into your text.

Now paste the URL of your thumbnail between the 'img' tags, and - when you have clicked to "Save" your updated message - your modified Post will show a copy of that same thumbnail in place of those 'img' tags.


(This image did not appear here until I returned to "Modify" my initial reply, and followed the steps I describe above.)

Again, I will admit that there might be a more streamlined way to do this, where we don't need to return and "Modify" our already posted message, but at least this seems to work OK.

(Carl, you might already know about the link at the bottom of each page on this Forum to the Simple Machines website (Simple Machines are the authors of this Forum software), and on their Home page they include a link to their "Online Manual" ... but their Online Manual is not as well written as IMatch's Help system    so when I wanted to know the answer to this very same question (many months ago) I had to do a long Google search instead!)

I used to use Photobucket before they went belly up - since then, I always use vgy.me.  I drag/drop the screenshot I want to embed and then click the provided <IMG> code tag.. paste that into the message and you are done!  If you wish to delete the screenshot from vgy.me after, just use the delete link provided and poof...  easy and quick and no need to use the modify workaround.  Hope this helps!

For this community, I prefer users using the built-in attachments.
Integrating the attached images into the post body is something that is not really needed - I do it as a comfort feature for readers.

Linking in images embedded on 3rd party servers always causes the IP address of all readers to end up in the logs of the third party vendor. Plus, they can plant a cookie on each computer (when your browser downloads the linked image) and then maybe even selling the discovered data to advertisement networks.

Many of these "upload image", "paste stuff", "shorten links" etc. services only exist because of the ability to install cookies and then track users around the net.

I don't wear a hat made of tinfoil but I prefer something we Germany call "Datensparsamkeit" - which means to control who knows what about you.

I just referred to the feature which allows you to attach images and files to your posts. You already used that.
Attached images will show up as thumbnails under your post and we can click on them to see them enlarged.

Embedding images inside the post by the manual copying of the link and the [img] BBcode is just icing on top and not needed.

When viewing posts, I always prefer to use embedded images for ease of post reading - images are placed within the confines of the text rather.. especially useful for long posts with lots of screenshots.  If the offsite IP's are an issue - SMF offers an embed feature for attachments: http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=3770

No mod needed. The less mods, the better.

You can just copy the address of your attached image (right-click on the thumbnail, choose "Copy Image Location") and then paste that into your post, wrapped in .
That's what I do and it takes no time.
