Hi I'm trying to learn to use IMatch's Renamer.  It looks very powerful but it is so powerful I can't figure out how to make a simple file change (i.e. rename)  :'(

I have my files in this format 1969-12-24_5631 (where the first part is the "date" and the last part is photo sequence number (this is photo 5631 of many scanned prints).  This is what I want to do with a folder of these formatted files, change the last four from 5631 to 6361, the next file to 6362 then 6363 etc.  All with the same date beginning:
                               1969-12-24_6361
                               1969-12-24_6362
                               1969-12-24_6363

Please tell me how to do this? The global file number is no help.  So how do I start the file renames at 6361.  It seems to be there should be two fields, Global File Number and Starting Sequence Number. The Global File Number could be 25,798 but the Starting Sequence Number for this specific file rename should be 1969-12-24_6361.   Thanks!!

There may be a detail or two left out of your request:

1. Do you want to just replace _5 with _6, or start with _6361 and sequence regardless of the original number?
2. Do all the files have the same beginning (1969-12-24_), or just the same date length?

Depending on your answers, there may be more than one way to do what you want, but I think the attached may work (be sure to run PREVIEW).

(Note that I changed the date on the second file to 1969-12-25_.)

ADMIN: Please do not post questions in a board that exists to give other users tips and for posting FAQ and similar.
Please and read the board description under the board name before posting. Don't just post in the first board from the top.
If in doubt, post in General Discussions and Questions.

I will move your post this time into the appropriate board.

The steps posted by OffPeak should do the trick.
Use the first part of the file name and append your new sequence number.

Thank you for the prompt replies....!! :)
Carl, your solution worked like a charm.
I now realize that the "Global Sequence" number will not activate until I have the proper processing instructions to initialize it.
Mario and everyone, I apologize for posting a question under "FAQ, Workflow, Tutorials".  I just saw the "Renamer and Distribution Child sub-topic" and posted there.  I'll be more careful next time...sorry!  :'(

The global sequence number increments by the step configured when you use it in a Renamer step.

The GroupBy can also be very helpful if you have to rename many groups of files (e.g. files with the same name but different numerical prefixes).
