Image count in category view

I have used versioning to link raw files and jpg files of the same image. Is there a way to tell imatch that I just want the see the count of masters, not the amount of image files for each category?

You cannot affect the count. Since both the master and the version are separate files, and both are assigned to the category, the count will always include both master and versions. All else would be wrong.

You can filter the File Window to show only masters (or versions) using the File Properties filter in the Filter Panel. File Properties

Or you create a new category based on a formula which excludes files in the Master Collection.
For example:

"COLORS" NOT "@Collection[Relations|Version]"

Shows all files in the COLORS category except versions. See Category Formulas for more info.
